INSTRUCTIONS FOR CALCULATING GPA
Use the worksheet to calculate your GPA. Your GPA will be used by the College of
Nursing to determine your eligibility/acceptance to upper division nursing courses.
If you currently hold a Bachelor’s degree in any other field please click in the Prior
Bachelor’s Degree box (indicating Yes) and then continue with the instructions below.
Use your TWU transcript to determine semester hours and grade.
If you do not have a TWU transcript, use one of the BS Equivalency Lists to determine
which course you have taken that meets the College of Nursing requirement: Choose the
campus of interest: Denton, Dallas, or Houston. If you have a prior Bachelor’s degree
and your transcripts do not match with the equivalency lists please call 940-898-2401 to
schedule an appointment with an advisor in Denton or 713-794-2146 to schedule an
appointment with an advisor in Houston.
1) Using your TWU transcript, enter the number of semester hours for each
completed prerequisite in the column marked SH. If you took your prerequisite
course at TWU in Denton enter the semester hour number in the column marked
TWU SH (Note: lecture courses are 3 semester hours. Lab courses are 1 semester
hour). If you took the course at another school enter the hours in the column
marked TRAN SH. Only enter the information in one column, not both.
2) Enter the number for your grade in the column marked GRADE as follows: A=4,
B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0
3) If you have only one grade for a 4 semester hour science course, enter 3 for the
lecture SH and 1 for the lab SH, then enter the number for your grade in both the
lab and lecture GRADE column.
4) Do not enter any numbers if you have not taken, or completed the course.
5) Scroll down to the center of the page and you will see your GPA.
6) The “TWU Bump” will only be filled in for students who meet the minimum
criteria for admission to the upper division nursing program and have completed
32 or more semester hours (for first degree) or 16 or more semester hours (for
second degree) of required non-nursing lower division courses taken at TWU.
IF A COURSE IS TAKEN MORE THAN ONCE, THE MOST RECENT GRADE
RECEIVED WILL BE COUNTED IN CALCULATING THE GPA. Other courses
which an applicant may have taken are not calculated in the grade point average for
admission.
**This worksheet is an unofficial working document. All final decisions are to be made
by TWU. All students should meet with an advisor at least one time a year to ensure they
are taking the correct courses.
