LONG RANGE UNIT GOAL(S) AND OBJECTIVE(S): The students will be able to conjugate and properly use all AR verbs covered in the unit. II. INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES: The students will be able to: Recognize AR verbs State the endings of AR verbs Recall the AR verb endings when doing activities Apply the conjugated forms of the AR verbs to the correct boxes Apply the conjugated forms of AR verbs to sentences Apply prior knowledge and AR verb knowledge to translations III. SET: Cultural Bellringer: What does the following saying mean to you? Have students write 5 sentences in Spanish about the quote. “La amistad nunca es olvidada, vive en nuestra corazón siempre.” Friendship is never forgotten, it lives in our hearts forever. Talk about the quote and what it means to the students. Now, we are going to start working with AR verbs. How many of you guys know of one AR verb that we have already covered? What part is the stem? What part is the ending? IV. INSTRUCTION: Content AR verbs (10 min.) Teacher strategies Teacher will introduce the lesson by holding up teacher made flashcards of 20 AR verbs (same pictures as in handout #1) and saying the AR verbs to the students Student activities Students will repeat each AR verb and take notes on them Materials/Media Teacher made flashcards / paper and pencil for notes AR verbs (25 min.) Teacher will go through the flashcards again, but this time the class will stand up and they will act out each one of the AR verbs-this can be done twice to make sure each student knows each AR verb Students will say and act out each AR verb that is on the teacher made flashcards Teacher made flashcards AR verbs (10-15 min.) Teacher will pass out handout #1 (which has same exact pictures as were just acted out by each student) and go over the directions with the students- not allowed to use notes-should remember them Students will begin working on handout #1 alone- they will fill in all 20 blanks with the infinitive form of the AR verb Handout #1: located in folder AR verb endings (10-15 min.) Teacher will go over AR verb endings on whiteboard-no irregulars on this day 1st person SINGULAR= O 2nd person SINGULAR= AS 3rd person SINGULAR= A 1st person PLURAL= AMOS Students will take notes on AR verb endings Whiteboard / marker / student notes / paper / pencil 2nd person PLURAL=ÁIS 3rd person PLURAL= AN AR verb endings (15-20 min.) Teacher will go over handout #2, do first problem with students to make sure everyone understands Students will begin working on handout #2, they will conjugate all 10 AR verbs in the correct boxes Handout #2: located in folder AR verbs (5-8 min.) Teacher will go over handout #2 by allowing 10 people to come to whiteboard and write out the conjugated forms of the verbs listed-teacher will go over any problems students had with activity Students selected will come to whiteboard and conjugate their AR verb correctly Whiteboard / markers / handout #2 AR verb translations (20-22 min.) Teacher will go over sentence #1 with students on handout #3. –Explain to students that if they need help, they can look in dictionaries or ask for teacher assistance. However, it is best that they work on this assignment alone to better their Spanish translation skills Students will translate 14 sentences from English to Spanish on handout #3 Handout #3: located in folder V. CLOSURE: Teacher will close lesson by going over translation sentences. Ask students what they learned about the lesson that they liked? Is it easy to translate? Is it easy to conjugate once you memorize the formula in the boxes? VI. ALTERNATIVE/SUPPLEMENTAL ACTIVITIES: If time still exists, students can have a competition on whiteboard or in groups conjugating the verbs on the AR verbs covered in class. If time still exists, teacher can read a storybook and students can point out all the AR verbs read by the instructor. If time still exists, teacher can give students a quiz by calling out the verb in Spanish and the students would write it in English, or vice versa. VII. SPECIAL NEEDS If there are special needs students, they can work with a partner to complete the exercise. They could also draw out only 2 or 3 verbs on a sheet of paper and then color them. They could hold the flashcards as the teacher called them out to the class. For gifted students, they could write a story using all 20 new AR verbs. They could draw out their own version of the verb instead of using the drawings on handout #1. The gifted students could make each one of the translated sentences plural. They could write the sentences in other tenses. VIII.
