Safety Guidelines Tools, chemicals or equipment should not be used if you are the slightest bit unsure as to their proper use. Do not hesitate to read the directions provided and/or to ask questions. 2. Wear goggles when using any chemicals, mixing chemicals, using a heating device, and whenever instructed to do so. 3. Notify the teacher immediately if ever you get something in your eyes, cut yourself, break a glass container, or spill chemicals. Notify the teacher if your classmate cannot tell the teacher that they hurt themselves. 4. Horseplay will absolutely not be tolerated in the classroom. 5. Do not enter the chemical storage area without teacher permission and never leave the classroom with equipment or chemicals or dissection specimens. 6. Save your body and clothes by handling chemicals carefully. Do not wear your best clothes on lab days. 7. Never taste or smell any lab chemicals unless instructed to do so. 8. Note the location of the fire blanket, eyewash, and glass disposal stations, and exits. 9. Never point a heated glass test tube, scalpel, or other sharp tools at another person. 10. Tie back long hair, roll up sleeves, dress appropriately, and wear closed toed shoes when directed to do so. 11. Refrain from eating or drinking while doing a laboratory experiment unless directed to do so. 12. Make sure to clean up you laboratory desk areas before you leave the classroom. Unfinished clean up will result in a loss of lab points. 13. Respect all organisms dead or alive. Any inappropriate handling of living organisms or dissection specimens will result in a zero for the lab and a referral. 14. Follow the teacher’s directions carefully for labs that require outdoor data collection. Be aware of the activities time limits and designated locations. Be sure to return to the classroom with the rest of the class. Do not go to any other area of the school on the way to or back from the lab location. **Please read the syllabus and classroom procedures. Then sign that you understand and agree to comply with the safety guidelines described above and classroom rules.
