Objectives : The objective of this course is to help pre-service student-teachers become competent English teachers in high schools with the knowledge of English language teaching (ELT).
In accordance with the e-learning trend worldwide, the integration of information and communication technologies (ICT) into the language classroom will be introduced and practiced. In sum, students are expected to
Develop a mindset to be a willing, helpful teacher by learning from materials & others;
Identify, adapt, and apply various print and multimedia forms of ELT materials;
Prepare a syllabus for a class in high school;
Design a semester-long lesson plan in general and a period-long lesson plan in details for a class;
Use appropriate language teaching techniques, approaches or methods in different learning situations for various types of students;
Guide effective, efficient English learning and evaluate students’ performance;
Be active to learn new knowledge and skills to be a qualified teacher of English;
Never give up your dreams! And always remember to build your dreams on realizable goals in the real life.
Major learning tasks:
Students will need to use the course website on moodle (http://moodle.ncku.edu.tw) to upload assignments, download reference documents or materials, and communicate with peers and the instructor.
One chapter or assigned materials will be discussed in class each week.
Students will have to form a study group of 2 to 3 members and discuss the content of the chapter or of assigned materials before coming to class.
Students will conduct micro-teachings in class twice in the semester.
One recent graduate from the program will share their experiences with the students in class in March.
Students will visit a high school and observe authentic teaching in April.
Students will demonstrate micro-teachings in a high school class in June.

Requirements & Grading:
10 % for class participation
10 % for developing or adapting teaching materials
40 % for teaching demonstration (10% each for the twice in class; 20% for that one in high school)
40 % for individual assignments (10% for the syllabus; 20% for the semester-long lesson plan;
10% for the self-reflection report)
Please note that the weekly schedule will be finalized after the time for visiting a high school and for the teaching demonstrations is confirmed.
