VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The PARENT STOP program, an initiative of Pinecrest-Queensway
Health Community Services and the Ottawa West End Community
Chaplaincy in the Foster Farm Community, is looking for volunteers to
act in a mentoring role with parents who use this program. Volunteers
need some parenting experience and willingness to go through an
orientation process. Volunteer time would be about one half-day per
week. For more information call the OWECC office at 613 726-1418.
NEW MUSIC BOOKS
A HUGE thank-you to the Knights of Columbus for funding the new
music resource Music Issue which you have seen in the pews. While
this resource does contain some songs which are already in our
hymnbook, it has a great many new contemporary settings of both
psalms and hymns which I'm sure we will enjoy learning and singing.
These are large print versions so they are easy to read and see. When a
hymn or song is from this resource the initials MI will be on the hymn
board. Thank-you again Knights for contributing to the liturgical life of St.
Basil's.

With the blessing of Fr. Wong and the Pastoral Council, the Missions and
Social Justice Committee is beginning a venture to link St. Basil’s with
the parish of St. Mary’s, Matero (near Lusaka), Zambia. As a result of
our “Aids in Africa” information evening last fall and the recommendation
of Fr. Michael Czerny s.j. (brother of Bob Czerny of our parish), we will
be assisting financially the Home Based Care Project of this large Jesuit
parish. This project seeks to assist those living with HIV/AIDS, as well as
widows, youth, orphans and vulnerable children.
As time goes on, we will be informing you more about this project and
hope to get more people involved.
