Chabot College Fall 2010 Course Outline for ART 3C FIGURE AND COMPOSITION III Catalog Description: 3C – Figure and Composition III 3 units Continued development of knowledge and skills further developed in Art 3B. Emphasis on composition and color and different figurative design elements during the drawing of the human form. Drawing elements stressing emotions and expressions. Strongly recommended: Art 3B (completed with a grade of “C” or higher). 2 hours lecture 4 hours studio. [Typical contact hours: lecture 35, studio 70] Prerequisite Skills: None Expected Outcome for Students: Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to: 1. apply eye and hand coordination to draw figures using color in composition; 2. demonstrate advanced ability to see and draw three-dimensional form, the most versatile which is the human figure; 3. use color with skill in figurative compositions and in singular figurative drawings; 4. use skills to express emotions in composition and figure; 5. apply the skills of drawing the figure and figure compositions to professional and collegiate goals. Figurative compositions based on six different emotions: a. happiness b. sadness c. deep thought d. fright e. love f. busy, activity 5. Class figurative composition based on a photograph 6. Class figurative composition based on an art master painter 7. Class figurative composition based on vertical and horizontal depth 8. Class drawing using contour, gesture, modeling, line expression and line depth 9. Class drawing involving the figure and drapery (clothing) 10. Sustained study and use of different color mediums such as pastel and watercolors 11. Class drawings and home drawings emphasizing expression and emotions Course Content (studio): 1.
