ANSWER
GENERAL/ NEW PARISH CENTER
How much will this all cost,
and how can we pay for it?
What time frame are we
talking about and where are
we in this process?
How will decisions be
communicated to the parish,
and how do I give my input?
Will this building replace the
current church?
How big will this building be?
How big will this building be
and where will it “fit”?
Can the new facility be
connected to the current
church building?
What about a K - 12 school?
The initial process has been started however; we have not yet reached a point where
we have a dollar estimate. We have not formally begun our capital campaign or started
raising funds. In order to break ground we must have 50% of the funds already raised.
A capital campaign committee will be created and donations of all sorts (including
materials and labor) will be welcome.
We are in the very early planning stages of the project. A flowchart has been created
outlining the initial steps we need to take in the building process. (It will be on the
website in the near future). We estimate we are 18 to 24 months away from breaking
ground.
We are planning to create space on the parish web site to detail every step of this
process. We hope to include a section for parishioner input. Watch for more to come
on the website in upcoming bulletins. In addition, the building committee will attend
regular social gatherings after mass to discuss the project and gather input. Finally,
updates will be posted in the bulletin on a regular basis.
NO. The new building will compliment the current buildings, and move some of the
functions under one roof. The current "wish list" includes parish offices, religious
education, food service, meeting rooms and storage. By having all of these things in
one building, it will allow existing buildings to better focus on their primary function.
We are a long way from knowing the actual dimensions just yet, but our goal is to
create a multi function facility which is capable of hosting large gatherings (for funerals,
weddings and the like), as well as office space, classrooms, and storage space.
The amount of land in the parish is fixed; therefore, there are only a few places such a
building can be built. All locations are being explored, but the current thinking is on the
north side of the parking lot, between the church and the rectory. This is only an
assumption at this point while other locations are also being explored
Although no plans are final, it is our goal to connect the buildings if possible
St. John the Baptist strongly supports Catholic education. We are evaluating the best
way to provide that option for members of the parish.
CURRENT PARISH CENTER
Why is it no longer an option
to use the current parish
center building?
The current parish center is not up to code in a variety of ways. It would be too costly
to bring it up to code and that option would still not meet the needs of a growing parish.
Can it be used for other things
or will it have to be torn down?
We are still in talks with the city to extend the useful life of the parish center. It is our
goal to continue to use this building while the multi use facility is in construction. If this
is not possible, contingency plans are also in the works.
Although the building cannot be used for public meetings, it will still be usable for other
purposes; e.g. storage.
What will happen to the
rectory if we build a new
building?
The rectory is a historic part of St. John the Baptist. It is our intention to maintain this
building going forward. The building itself may have to be moved to make way for
expanded parking, or other such needs.
Can the triangle be used for
parking? If so, why is it not?
The triangle can be made available for parking in the future. The area will require some
planning and preparation to determine the most beneficial use of the property.
What will happen to the
current church? Will it need to
be remodeled or rebuilt?
The current church is able to meet the needs of the community at this time. As the
parish grows the plan would be to expand the current church by pushing the alter back
(to its original location) in order to increase the capacity of the current building. There
are NO plans to tear down the current church.
When is the last day it can be
used?
