These course standards are designed to insure that the final course output is: Consistent in format Utilizes a consistent User Interface Will be maintainable by AERAS staff or other LINGOs volunteers Will support future translation It is critical that all Cerner volunteers’ development efforts comply with these standards. If you have suggestions for improvement or questions related to the content of this document please contact: Bill Klco – Cerner Corporation bklco@cerner.com bklco@yahoo.com 2 AERAS – elearning Design and Course Standards Required Tools The following Tools are required for doing development on this project. Microsoft Word Microsoft PowerPoint Articulate Presenter 5 Articulate Quiz Maker 2 (optional) PC microphone or microphone headset Articulate has agreed to donate licenses of Presenter and Quiz Maker to LINGOs volunteers. Please coordinate obtaining these licenses through Bill Klco. The Articulate licenses will need to be removed from your PC after completion of the project, they are property of LINGOs not Cerner. You may use your Cerner laptop or home PC for this project. If you use your home PC you will need to have access to Word and PowerPoint. If you do not have these programs on your machine you my purchase Microsoft Office Professional for $xx.00 via the associate discount, please see myCerner for details. We do have a limited number of USB microphone headsets available for use for the individuals who are going to provide voice talent. Please coordinate through Bill Klco. 3 AERAS – elearning Design and Course Standards Standard Course Design All courses for this project should utilize the following design elements. Title slide – including copyright notification, version number, publication date, etc Learning Objectives for the course Base content (PowerPoint Slides) – slide titles, slide animation, slide notes and audio. Learning Games (quizzes) – use when instructional notes pose a group or discussion question and to review knowledge after completing a key topic. Summary of key concepts – Key points to remember Closing slide – credits, contact, etc Attachments - Referenced source materials, photo and source credits and key terms. Pre – post test – developed in Articulate Quiz Maker. 4 AERAS – elearning Design and Course Standards Title Slide The title slide should include the following elements: AERAS Logo Course Title AERAS Copyright information Course Number Course Publish Date Principles of Clinical Research Clinical Research Practice 1 Copyright: AERAS 2006 Course Number: CRP1 Publish Date: 27 August 2006 Learning Objective The course objectives should be immediately following the course title slide. In most cases this will require multiple slides and will be titled, What will you will learn today?, or something similar. If there are multiple learning objective slides please include (1 of x), where x is equal to the number of slides containing objectives, in the slide header. You Will Learn To: (1 of 2) Define clinical research and explain why we perform clinical research. Define Standard Operating Procedure. Identify the types of clinical research trials. Define protocol. State the protections given to human participants in clinical research. Define Good Clinical Practice and Good Laboratory Practice. 3 5 AERAS – elearning Design and Course Standards Base Content When developing the base course content the following standards should be applied to each slide; Slide Titles – all slides must have slide headers, when you publish the file Articulate creates the table of content – index from the slide headers. Slide Animations – Articulate supports most slide animations. Use sparingly to highlight key points. Develop the animation directly in PowerPoint. For maintainability do not use any Flash Movies or Web Objects. Slide notes – Slide notes can be displayed to the learner when taking the course. The slide notes in PowerPoint are converted to learner text when the course is published in Articulate. After completing the storyboard the learner text should be added to the slide note area in the PowerPoint file. Audio – Once the storyboard is completed the audio can be recorded using Articulate. All courses should incorporate both slide notes (learner text) and audio. Learning Games Learning games should be used when the instructor notes pose a question for group discussion see CRP1 slide 7 for example. The slide title is, What is Clinical Research? The instructor notes suggest that you ask the question of the class. In an eLearning format you can use a learning game such as a multiple choice, multiple answer question or a sequencing question to get the learner to think about their understanding of the topic, in this case Clinical Research, prior to providing the detailed course content. Learning games can also be inserted after an important topic is completed as a brief knowledge quiz. Summary of Key Concepts The last few slides of each model should summarize the key concepts, noted as Key Points to Remember. When you have multiple key concept slides you should note in the slide header the number of slides (1 of x). Closing Slide The final slide should include course title and any closing credits. Attachments Attachments should be created in Articulate for the following items as applicable. Photo and source credits - any photo or source credits noted in the instructor notes of the base content should be recorded in a PDF document and attached to the final course via Articulate. Any photo or source credits should reference the slide number on which they appear. 6 AERAS – elearning Design and Course Standards Other reference documents – several courses include additional documents (EB2 – Key Terms) (CPR2 – Principles of ICH GCP) these documents should be converted to PDF format and attached via Articulate. Slide handouts saved as PDF for the student to print off as a participant guide??? Link to AERAS (www.aeras.org) ??? Pre / Post Test The pre and post test questions should be created in Articulate Quiz Maker. These assessments will then be hosted on the LINGOs LMS. They should not be imported into the base course, but saved separately. 7 AERAS – elearning Design and Course Standards Articulate Presenter Publishing Standards The following is a list of publishing standards that all courses developed on this project must meet.
