Assistant Professor, Bioinformatics/Biomedical, Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, 10 month fulltime, tenure-track position
Description
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Rowan University invites applications for a tenure-track
assistant professor position in the area of bioinformatics/biophysical. Teaching undergraduate chemistry courses
and laboratories (majors and non-majors) and performing and maintaining active research and involving students
in scholarly activities are expected. Teaching assignments may include courses in freshman chemistry, chemistry
for non-science majors, bioinformatics, physical chemistry and biophysical chemistry as well as advanced
interdisciplinary courses. The successful candidate will have the opportunity for possible collaborative and
interdisciplinary projects with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the College of Engineering and the (newly
proposed) Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.
Qualifications
A doctorate in bioinformatics/physical chemistry or related field is required. Successful candidates are expected to
have a strong record of biomedical research and be able to successfully compete for external funding. Evidence
of teaching experience is required. Post doctoral experience is highly desirable.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers the following programs: BS in Chemistry (ACS Approved),
BS in Biochemistry, BS in Physical Sciences with specializations in Chemistry or Physics and BA in Chemistry.
The Department has a state-of-art facility. Equipment includes: FT-IR, GC/MS, LC/MS, ICP/MS, 400 MHz FTNMR, HPLC, GC, AA, CD, Fluorimeter, Accelrys Molecular Modeling-Discovery Studio, SEM, AFM, STM, SPR,
GPC, DSC, TGA, UV-Vis, stopppedflow/quenchflow CD, phosphor storage scanner, PCR, protein gel
electrophoresis, DNA Sequencer and more. The Department is housed in a new $44M science building.
The department's atmosphere reflects the invigorating environment at Rowan University which is a vibrant,
comprehensive state institution with a present enrollment of over 11,000 students. The university is located in a
suburban, residential setting in southern New Jersey and is less than 20 miles from Philadelphia.
All positions are contingent upon budget appropriations.
