Development and Flood Risk Officer
Brief Description
Providing technical support to the Development and Flood Risk Engineers.
Position Specific Information
This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of flood risk professionals
covering the West Area of Thames Region based in Wallingford , Oxfordshire.
Working in a dynamic and interesting team covering a wide varied area
including urban and rural environments from Newbury to Banbury and High
Wycombe across to the Cotswolds, you will work with engineers to reduce
flood risk by responding to consultations on Flood Risk Assessments and
Flood Defence Consents
You will respond to requests from the public and other bodies for information
about floodplains. You will also provide technical support to the Development
and Flood Risk Engineers by commenting on small scale development
planning consultations and low risk consents affecting the physical
characteristics of watercourses and land drainage. One of your most
important roles will be to provide general administrative support to the
Development and Flood Risk Team.
We are looking for a motivated, flexible and hard working person who is keen
to learn and can work independently and as part of a team. Previous
experience in the environmental field is desired but not essential as training is
given. You must be able to interpret basic technical data, i.e. Flood
information. Ideally you will hold a full driving licence as site visits may be
necessary.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Providing information on floodplains to the public and other bodies.
 Responding to small scale planning applications and pre-development
enquiries.


Assessment and determination of low risk land drainage consents.
Providing administrative support to Development Flood Risk Team.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
 Ability to interpret basic technical data, ie. Flood information
 Good interpersonal skills to deal effectively with customers, including
developers, the general public and internal Agency staff from other
functions.
 Good written and verbal communication skills.
 Good organisational skills and methodical approach to working.
 Computer literate with good keyboard skills, GIS would be desirable.
 Position would ideally suit candidates qualified to HNC level or graduates
in an engineering or appropriate environmental discipline.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
 Ideally the post holder will hold a valid driving licence as site visits may be
necessary.
 The post holder will have a general interest in environmental issues.
