COURSE OUTCOMES FRENCH III (SECONDARY) (July 2007) French III program includes oral, speaking, reading and writing language activities and is generally engaged in middle and secondary school. The normal prerequisite for this course is mastery of the units of Language II or its equivalent. In this course the students will increase fluency in spoken and written Language, extend their vocabulary, and will be able to comprehend native speakers. The main goal of this course is to teach the students to master grammar and vocabulary in more complex structures. French III gets known with the history, literature, traditions, and customs of the target culture. This course is a prerequisite for Language IV. The normal pace for this course leads to mastery of the ten essential units during a time appropriate for a non-native language learner. This course is designed to meet five periods a week, with a period being approximately 40 minutes. Each unit is divided into Essential Outcomes, which must be assessed for mastery, and Practiced/Ongoing Skills, which should be taught but not necessarily mastered in that particular unit. In addition, there is a rubric, the use of which is not required but is provided simply to assist teachers in determining A and B levels.
