The primary mission of the ranches is to provide a pleasant wilderness experience for the owners and their guests. In the fall the primary mission is hunting. The vacant position is at the Flying B ranch, which is located on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River; additional duties may also include some work at the Root Ranch. The ranches have cabins for daily rental and a lodge for cooking and dinning with a small convenient type store serving guest and Salmon River floaters. We also maintain a herd of approximately 65 horses and mules for access to the wilderness. Primary access is via small aircraft. There is no road access to the ranches. Job Description / Summary: Paramount to this position is the ability to work with and communicate with owners, guests and fellow crewmembers. This position reports to and works under the supervision of the Flying Resort Ranches Inc. General Manager. This position is responsible for quality of work and productivity of the ranches staff, the moral of the work group, the working relations with the general manager and employee’s adherence to ranch policies and guidelines. This positions responsibility includes but is not limited to the day-to-day operations of the ranch and building and grounds maintenance, farming and equipment maintenance, hay and pasture irrigation, herd management, backcountry packing, guest and owners invoicing and public relations. Qualifications: The following list is the minimum qualification for this position. An applicant may possess additional skills that will assist them with this application. Applicants are encouraged to include a full resume that identifies any unique qualities they may have. Ability to work with and under Ranches General Managers direction. Internet and writing skills to communicate with General Manager. Speaking and communication skills. Leadership and team building skills. The ability to work with such agencies as the Forest Service and Idaho State Fish and Game. Ability to live on site at the Flying B during the main operating season (typically early March thru late November). Experience in staff management (ability to keep employees work ethics and quality at the highest level while living and working in a confined environment). Facilities maintenance knowledge to perform minimal maintenance issues o Property consists of guest cabins, equipment shop, and guest dinning and cook lodge, Shower facilities and other living quarters and buildings, and associated equipment. Basic carpentry, plumbing, refrigeration, electrical skills and knowledge will be helpful. Ranch produces it own power from waterpower generator with diesel backup. Any additional knowledge in these areas will be beneficial. Farming, ranch experience and knowledge to maintain a healthy hay crop and pastures for stock. Maintenance and operational knowledge of farming equipment. Experience in herd management – health / grazing and feeding of livestock. o Herd consists of approximately 65 horses and mules used by members, guests and for hunting and packing. Stock is kept in backcountry year around and grazed on public lands during offseason. Packing experience. Pilot’s licenses not required but advantageous. Ability to be licensed with the Idaho State Outfitters and Guides Licensing Board. Ability to pass a drug test upon employment and is willing to participate in random testing throughout the year. Willingness to participate and the understanding that all employees are subject to a background test before employment. Compensation: Salary for this position is commensurate with the applicants experience, background and training. All Flying Resort Ranches, Inc employees are paid a base salary + room/board. Owners and guests that feel the staff has worked above the call of duty leave tips. All employees reside at the ranches in employee provided housing with 4 days per month out of the ranches. Employees are transported to the ranches via small aircraft. Ranch covers the flight expenses for one round trip to a nearby airport per month. Upon third season of employment a simple IRA plan goes into effect. The ranches match 3% of the gross wages in to your fund. Your fund is 100% vested from opening day. Upon 4th season of employment the ranches pay for your health insurance during the months of employment.
