The wind god and the witch Circe
1. After Odysseus and his men leave
Cyclops they land on the island of
Aeoleous.(the wind king)
2. Odysseus goes to shore to get water
for his men.
3. While at the waterfall a face appears
in the waterfall.
4. The person in the waterfall is the
wind god is Aeolius.
5. Aeolius does not like Poseidon so he
agrees to help Odysseus.
6. The reason Aeolius does not like
Poseidon is because Poseidon is
arrogant.
7. With his hand up in the air he is able
to pull all of the wind into a bag. (all
kinds of wind) He puts the good winds
in one bag and the bad winds in
another.
8. He gives the bag to Odysseus and
warns him not to open it until you get
home to Ithaca. “Don’t open this
bag!”Odysseus takes the bag back to
his ship and they sets sail for home.
Odysseus does not tell his men what is in
the bag.
9. The men become very very curious
about what is in the bag.
Odysseus’ men get within sight of home,
Ithaca. Odysseus can’t help himself and
he falls asleep.
The men cut open the bag and it blows
the ship all the way back to the wind
god’s island, Aeolia. (The wind
destroyed the ship.) They had been
sailing for 3 weeks.
10. Odysseus yells at his men blaming
them for what happened.
11. Is it the men’s fault?
12. Is it Odysseus’ fault?
Odysseus again asks the wind god for
help. (again)
13. The wind god refuses to help
Odysseus anymore because you must
be cursed.
The Witch Circe
1. They land on Circe’s island.
Odysseus sends three men to
investigate. One of the men is a
runner.
2. They discovered a beautiful woman,
and she cast a spell over everyone
she saw. She turns his men into
pigs.
3. Odysseus decides he must go and
rescue his men.
4. He climbs up a cliff when Hermes
appears. (Heroic trait: strength)
; he offers Odysseus a plant called
Moly. “If you eat this plant it will
protect you from Circe’s spells.”
5. Odysseus demands that his men
must to turned back into humans.
6. Circe says “The only way I will turn
your men back is if you sleep with
me.”
So…. He says, “For the good of my men,
I will.” Yes
7. Next morning, he gets ready to
leave. He finds out that a year has
passed by.
