Fall Sports Teams are doing well The girl’s volleyball team placed 3rd at the Calhoun High School Volleyball tournament and the boy’s football team is undefeated at 4-0, following their homecoming victory over Greenfield. Homecoming Week a Huge Success All of the activities associated with homecoming week including the parade, football game and dance were enjoyed by all. Congratulations are in order for Clancy Westnedge and Jordan Meehan, who were crowned homecoming queen and king. New Volunteer Program to Benefit High School I have had discussions with a group of community members who expressed a desire to work with the high school administration and staff to undertake projects that will enhance opportunities for our students. After discussion about many different ideas we mutually agreed to pursue the following projects: Campus Improvements Development of High School Web Site School Newspaper Assist in the Library Coordinate College & Career Night Assist at Open House Develop a Resource Center Guest Speakers Field Trip Sites Job Shadowing etc The primary goal of the Volunteer Program is to help foster academic excellence and create community pride for North Greene High School. SIUE Placed an Administrative Intern at NGHS Mrs. Lori Hopkins is doing her Pre-Administrative Internship at NGHS. Mrs. Hopkins is a former high school English teacher and currently is employed at SIUE as a English instructor and Coordinator of SIUE Testing Center. She will be job shadowing each Thursday during the first semester. Additionally she has volunteered to develop North Greene High School’s Web Site and provide in-service to our staff on implementing technology into their classroom instruction. Joint College/Career Night & NGHS Open House Tomorrow evening, September 21, from 6-8 pm we will hold a joint College & Careers Night and Open House for the High School. This will allow students and their parents to visit with the various vendor displays and also meet the high school staff. Lewis & Clark Community College Second Semester Senior Program Attached is a brochure concerning an on-campus transition program for area high school students through the High School Partnership Program. I just received this information today and wanted to share it with you. I will bring this item for discussion and possible adoption at the October meeting. Items of Concern Hall Lockers Due to the increased enrollment at the high school and lack of lockers, we currently have in some situations in where 3 students are assigned to one locker. We have 172 lockers and 360 students. To compound the problem all 172 lockers are located in the east end of the building (by the East Gym) and all 360 students have to occupy the same space between periods. Parking Lot Policy It is my understanding that current policy requires a permission note from home each day a student wishes to drive their car during noon hour. No student is permitted to leave campus as a passenger in other student’s car? If students pick up other students just off campus, but within eye sight, should I be concerned?
