The Hint of Pink Ball
27th March 2009
The Arrival
There was a real buzz in the air as we waited for our
car, unfortunately the limo broke down but Kevin
Walsh of Sarnia Chauffeur Services stepped in and
provided a very sleek Rolls Royce! Georgina felt like a
star when she arrived and saw the big searchlight
provided by Jon Archer with a fabulous reception of
friends and the press waiting for her!
The Reception
The Lt-Governor Sir Fabian Malbon arrived with his
lovely wife Lady Malbon. Jessica presented Lady
Malbon with a beautiful bouquet of flowers provided
by Tussie Mussie. Lady Malbon presented Georgina
with a beautiful pink bracelet. It was very kind of Sir
Fabian and Lady Malbon to especially fit Georgina into
their very busy schedule that evening.
We all grabbed a glass of pink bubbly provided by
Randalls and went through to have photos done by the
charming Tim Langlois. Tim really did a great job and
Georgina loved every minute of it, even jumping in on
other people’s photos! They can all be viewed and
purchased on www.langloisphotography.com. Tim is
donating all profits to Georgina’s Gang.
The Ball Room
Onto La Fontaine room and it looked fabulous with an
extra special touch provided by Rent-A-Linen. The
chairs were decorated in lovely shades of pink with
pink bows tied around each one. These were a
particular favourite of Georgina’s. Each table had three
balloons supplied by Bonboniera with a kind donation
towards them from Paul & Lynn Devonshire.
The Meal
The meal was kicked off with a very short heartfelt
speech from Ian and Tania. It wasn’t possible to thank
everyone, but hopefully the website achieves that. The
underlying message was how overwhelmed they have
been by people’s kindness, and how they hope that one
day they can repay that kindness with Georgina’s Gang
raising funds for other worthy causes. The food by St
Pierre Park was, as ever, delicious. The meal was
accompanied by the Jazz Band, who’s set was
excellent. During the meal Lars Henningson went from
table to table mystifying as many people as possible
with his magic. Rob ably stringed things together with
occasional appearances with the microphone.
It was all a little too much for Georgina after the first
course and she retired to her room with Gillian who so
kindly offered to miss out on the fun and look after her.
Georgina also had many other visitors too her room
that night – so popular is she!
Cath, Tina and Kev for sorting everyone out. We didn’t
expect to have to apologise for too many prizes!
The Raffle
If ever there was a learning experience for our next ball
it was this! We had over 150 fabulous prizes. In
addition, the committee thought that on this first big
event it would be such a fun idea that everyone got a
prize of some sort and Specsavers helped with this by
providing the pink sunglasses. It was great to see the
dance floor filled with people wearing them. What the
committee wanted to avoid was the time that would be
taken calling out of hundreds of individual raffle
prizes, so each table had 15 winning tickets (of course,
over a hundred were the sunglasses). What we had
overlooked was the potential mayhem of 275 people all
going up at once to collect their prizes! So thank you to
everyone for their patience and thanks to Josie, Mary,
The Dancing
Kevin Driscoll provided the wonderful mix of music
through the decades and the dance floor was not empty
at any point. It was fantastic to see so many people
having a great time. Such a melee of pink and
sunglasses! Young Tessa Dutton-Queripel (Georgina’s
cousin) and her sister Jessica did some particularly
fantastic Abba renditions at the end with the (dare I say
it – slightly tipsy) Cable and Wireless team – Ian’s
work colleagues.
Finally, thank you to everyone that attended. Such an effort was made with the pink theme and
everyone came with a happy head on. It was an event to make some money but even more importantly
it was a launch evening and we wanted it to be informal and for everyone to have fun. We are so glad
to say we certainly did!
The Croft and friends don those sunglasses
Sunny, Tess and Jess get on down…
We are sure that many more photographs will be linked to the website soon……..
