Catalog item 1708195
Sole Source Specification
The Molecular Imager Gel Doc XR System is manufactured solely by Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. It is the
most automated gel documentation system that allows obtaining optimized image data and analysis
from a gel in a single uninterrupted, fast and completely repeatable workflow.
The system has the flexibility to image fluorescent and colorimetric samples.
The system is powered by Image Lab® software to enable the highest level of automation in hardware
calibration, image optimization, image capture and analysis.
Unlimited copies of Image Lab software are available with each system to allow free functionality for
sharing, analysis, and presentation of gel data.
The systems hardware components include a high-resolution 12-bit CCD camera, a light-tight
compact darkroom, slide-out transilluminator with preparative mode for added safety when
manually visualizing samples with UV excitation. The system is capable of providing trans-UV, transblue, trans-white, and epi-white light illumination. The software-driven motorized lens is controlled
via PC or Mac computer through a convenient single USB computer interface.
The Gel Doc XR+ can be used for imaging a wide variety of applications, including colorimetric and
fluorescent western blots, colony counting, nucleic acid and protein detection via colorimetric and
fluorescent stains using a large portfolio of detection methods (Ethidium Bromide, SYBR Green, SYBR
Safe, SYBR Gold, GelGreen, GelRed, Fast Blast, SYPRO Ruby, Flamingo, Oriole, CY3, Rhodamine, Green
Fluorescent Protein, Hoechst, Krypton, Silver stain, Copper stain, Zinc stain, Coomassie Brilliant Blue,
Coomassie Fluor Orange, Fluorescein, CY2, Alexa 488, Qdots 525, 565, 625 and other spectrally
similar stains, labels and dyes).
The features below and their benefits together combine to make the Gel Doc XR a unique offering to
