Museum Assistant, Phoenix Airport Museum, City of Phoenix, part-time February 2002 to 2010, then full time to present Job-sharing the position of Museum Assistant for the City of Phoenix, Phoenix Airport Museum, one of the largest airport art exhibition programs in the United States. Duties include curating and installing art 2 and history exhibitions; managing registration and collection management tasks for the permanent art collection; guiding the program through Museum Assessment Programs in preparation for accreditation. Consultant, Mesa Southwest Museum, Mesa, Arizona, 1997 Designed and wrote implementation plans for three permanent galleries (fine art, photography, natural history) adopted for use within a major expansion of the Museum which opened in May 2000. Responsible for contacting collectors, negotiating all loans, keeping records, transporting and installing all items. Responsible also for the safe return of the items and assisting with associated educational programming. Accomplishments Exhibitions produced include: 2000 - Home on the Range, an exhibition featuring three Arizona artists whose works focus on the societal issues of the areas they consider home. Anne Coe, Kay Emig and Lynn Tabor focused on life and death, city sprawl on deserts, and pristine skyscapes, respectively. 2000 - Beyond the Visible Terrain, The Art of Ed Mell. 1998 - Merrill Mahaffey, a one-man exhibition featuring recent works by a renowned regional landscape painter whose work focuses on water and National Parks (a catalog was printed). 1994 - Fish Out of Water, an examination of water quality in the American West through the art and personal statements of several artists and writers. 1992 - Arizona Wildlife, a fine art exhibition showcasing the wide variety of wildlife found in the state of Arizona. 1990 - The Living Mirage, Scenes of Southwestern Desert Flora, Two-dimensional art works from 1863 to 1990 depicting the rich variety of flora found in North America’s five deserts, all of which converge in Arizona. 3 LECTURES/WORKSHOPS PRESENTED Presenter: “Drawing Trees”, Arizona Museum for Youth, 2008 Presenter: “Real Artist/Real Life.” A talk directed at all levels of art students about making a career in the arts. SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY I presented a two-hour course on Western American cowboy art for Elderhostel, in Wickenburg, on an annual basis 1992-1997. SOS! (Save Outdoor Sculpture!) Community Coordinator, 1993. I documented all outdoor sculpture in the communities and areas outlined by Wickenburg, Bagdad, Scull Valley and Yarnell, Arizona. I attended the training session sponsored by the Arizona Commission on the Arts then fulfilled the requirements outlined for the program by the Smithsonian Institution. Artist-panelist invited to assist the selection of artists for the City of Scottsdale’s Percent for the Arts Project at Scottsdale Stadium, 1990. Co-founder of the Phoenix Artists Coalition, 1980; president, 1982-1986. PAC was a sometimes loose, sometimes very tightly organized club founded to foster recognition of local artists who were out of art school but not renowned. It provided a regular meeting place to air creative ideas, nurture artistic growth and find peer support. As part of my duties, I organized and managed several group exhibition installations, met with the media, organized meetings, secured guest speakers, and printed the newsletter. Juror, speaker or demonstrator for many community art clubs in Glendale, Lake Havasu City, Phoenix, Prescott, Sun City, Sun City West, and Wickenburg.
