Using the Recycle Bin
By default Window95 sends all deleted files, icons, and programs to the recycle bin. The recycle bin is a
temporary storage location for deleted files. Using the recycle bin allows you an opportunity to recover a
file you accidentally deleted.
To recover a file you accidentally deleted since the last time you emptied the recycle bin using the menu
optons:
 Double click on the Recycle Bin icon on your desktop.
 Select a deleted file in the Recycle Bin window by clicking on it.
 Open the Edit menu, select the Undo Delete option to recover (undelete) the file. Or click on the File
menu option, then click Restore.
To use cut and paste to restore a file:
 Select a deleted file in the Recycle Bin window.
 Open the Edit menu..
 Select Cut to place the file in the cut and paste buffer.
 Using Explorer move to the appropriate directory
 Open the Edit menu.
 Select Paste to replace the file.
You may also use Windows Explorer to restore files in the recycle bin:
 From the Explorer window highlight the Recycle Bin to list the contents
 Click on the file you want to restore to select it.
 Click on the File menu option.
 Click on the Restore option.
To permanently delete all files in the recycle bin open the File menu then choose Empty Recycle Bin.
Note: When a deleted file is moved to the recycle bin Windows 95 creates or appends file header
information to a hidden file named INFO in the \RECYCLED directory. It then places the deleted files in
the same directory and renames them. Files in the \RECYCLED directory have names that begin with DC,
e.g. DC2.COM, DC3.DOC, DC4.TXT.
