Responsibilities: PGY-1 Clinic Rotation Clinical Overview: During the two months of PGY-1 General Pediatric Rotation resident will provide excellent patient care through the evaluation and management of common medical problems seen in the ambulatory clinic setting. (See further Goals and Objectives on residency website). This can be quite a high volume rotation! During the winter, as an intern, you may see 10-15 patients in a day. You should complete an entire history and physical exam, and formulate an assessment and plan of care, prior to presenting. You should primarily be presenting to the third year resident. Your goals are to learn time management in clinic and learn the skill of pertinent information gathering. If indicated, feel free to start the work up (obtaining urine, rapid strep). Our hope is that your skills as a general pediatrician will greatly improve after three months in clinic. You will be on call for one weekend in the MBU. Schedule: Expected to attend AM report, grand rounds, and noon conferences Three weeks of general pediatric clinic Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 8:30 to 5:30 pm, Tuesday, Thursday: 8:30- noon and 5-8:30 pm Resident to stay until patient care is completed or transferred during daily/evening clinics. 5 days of weekday vacation, and 2 weekends for total of 9 days off . Call: One weekend of MBU coverage (Saturday, Sunday) which includes rounding in the normal newborn nursery. Other expectations: *Journal Club Presentation once per year *4 mini pre-clinic presentations per month for clinic team *4 afternoons taking mommy calls with triage nurses (nursing to provide direct feedback). *Continuity Clinic once per week per schedule Procedure based checklist to complete: (To be done during 2-6 pm on Tue and Thur or during regular clinic hours) *Vision Screening *Use of MDIs, nebulizer treatments, peak flows, spirometry *Vaccine administration/TST/hemaque *Ear irrigation *Bladder catheterization *Tympanometry * Use of fluorescein dye * Use of liquid nitrogen * Rapid Strep Testing * Transcutaneous Bilirubin Testing *Silver nitrate use
