25. Iorwerth Glyn Roberts.
Iorweth Glyn Roberts was born in the September quarter 1918, son of John Ellis
Roberts and Grace Roberts (nee Edwards). He was educated at the Berwyn School and the
Llangollen Council School, and was a faithful member of Eiranallt Chapel. He was a market
gardener before he joined the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in 1939, No 4197005. He had married
Megan Olwen Jones in September Quarter 1938. By 1944 he was a Lance Serjeant with the 4 th
Battalion. He was killed 27th September 1944 during the British advance into Holland, and is
buried in grave I. E. 2., Cemetery: Valkenswaard War Cemetery, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands,
a pine wood where most of the graves are of men who fell in the surrounding woods.

Grave/Memorial Reference: I. E. 2., Cemetery: Valkenswaard War Cemetery, Noord-Brabant,
Netherlands. Valkenswaard was the first village to be liberated on the main line of the British
advance into Holland in September 1944. The cemetery, which lies in a pinewood, contains
over 220 graves, almost all of them are those of men who fell in the fighting in the woods
around Valkenswaard during that month. All the men buried here belonged to the forces of the
United Kingdom.

LLANGOLLEN
This week Llangollen mourns yet another of her sons. At the weekend news was received by
Mrs. Glyn Roberts, Castle Street, that her husband, Sergt. I. Glyn Roberts, R.W.F., had been killed in
action during September with the B.L.A. Sergt. G. Roberts who was the younger son of Mr J.Ellis
Roberts Bryn Newydd, Vivod, Llangollen, was a market gardener before he joined the R.W.F. in 1939.
He was educated at the Berwyn School and the Llangollen Council School, and was a faithful member
of Eiranallt Chapel. We shall all miss his happy, genial disposition among us. Our deepest sympathy
goes out to his widow, Mrs Glyn Roberts, and her father, brother and sister in their irreparable loss.
