BAYLOR UNIVERSITY STUDENT GOVERNMENT
AT-LARGE SENATE APPLICATION for Spring 2007
The method for receiving At-Large admission to Student Senate by application is quite
different than the election process. As outlined in the Constitution, the class officers are
responsible for nominating students to fill any vacant Senate seats representing their class.
This year, the class officers will accept applications for 2 weeks and then interview
candidates to make a final selection.
Please complete the demographic information on this sheet and attach your
answers and bill to the questions below on additional sheets.

What do you see as the mission of the Student Senate? How does
that fit within the larger mission of Baylor Student Government??
Please list and explain several issues facing Students at Baylor that
you are passionate about making a difference on.
Explain any leadership, or representative experience that might aid
you if selected for Student Senate.
Please list your time commitments this semester.
1.) Please write a resolution to be placed on the floor of Student Senate upon admission
to Senate. The prompt for this resolution is as follows: “Find an important,
resolvable problem that concerns Baylor students, and write a bill addressing these
concerns.”
a. Examples of realizable goals: Asking the administration for more bike racks,
more cross-walks on streets, or requesting better lighting on campus (these
issues have already been addressed by Senate, so don’t try them).
b. Examples of unrealizable goals: Free parking, two weeks for spring break,
lower tuition. A large part of being a Senate representative is being aware of
Senate’ limitations and working within them.
c. A template and a sample bill are available to help. PLEASE FOLLOW
THE TEMPLATE.
Completed applications (with answers and bills attached) are due by Wednesday, January
31, at 5:00pm in the mail box of your class president in the Student Government office.

Imperative 8 of Baylor 2012 states, “We will give increased attention to the
aesthetic value of the campus”;
Therefore:
Be it resolved by the Baylor University Student Senate assembled that

to be done to fix these areas be done as soon as possible for the benefit of
current students and faculty.
