JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE:
Instructional Aide
PRIMARY FUNCTION: To assist the teacher by performing tasks which are assigned
and directed by the teacher. The tasks must not infringe upon the responsibilities
reserved for certified teachers. It is vital that both the teacher and aide fully understand
the limitations as well as the tasks of the aide. If assigned as an instructional technology
aide, individual will provide technological assistance in the computer laboratory or
classroom setting.
JOB GOAL: To assist, support, and work closely with all stakeholders in providing
educational, emotional, social, and behavioral benefit for students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Hold a high school diploma or GED certificate and
2. Obtain Highly Qualified Status as identified through the No Child Left
Behind Act of 2001
3. Physical strength, dexterity, ability, and desire to complete required duties
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find
appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO:
Principal and/or Classroom Teacher
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Carries out the planned instruction under the guidance of the teacher as
follows but not limited to:
 Reading to students
 Assisting students in library/media center
 Writing dictation given by students
 Helping students locate and use materials
 Encouraging safety habits in work and play
 Assisting students to understand and follow directions and rules
 Encouraging students to work independently
 Listening to students
2. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce
learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by
instructional staff.
3. Assists instructional staff in devising strategies to reinforce learning
based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs,
interest, and abilities.
4. Monitors work, corrects papers, and supervises curriculum-based testing
and makeup work as assigned by the instructional staff.
5. Informs the instructional staff of any educational information pertinent to
individual students.
6. Performs clerical, classroom maintenance, and instructional duties as assigned
by the instructional staff as follows, but not limited to:
 Records attendance and other information, collects money, and
maintains a clean and healthy classroom atmosphere
 Prepares lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits,
equipment, and demonstrations
 Distributes teaching materials such as textbooks, workbooks,
papers, and pencils
 Performs duties such as snack time, toileting, and clothing routines
 Promotes the instructional use of technology in the classroom
7. Collaborates with all stakeholders to insure a free appropriate public education
for all students in their least restrictive environment.
8. Assists as directed by instructional staff in the effort to successfully maintain
students with special needs in an inclusive setting as determined by the
Individualized Educational Program.
9. When requested, serves as a resource person to the General Education
classroom.
10. Provides students with assistive or supportive technology as needed.
11. Provides necessary therapies or behavior modification programs or other
necessary supports under the supervision of the instructional or therapeutic
staff.
12. Provides support in all areas of assessments in the instructional program.
13. Supervises students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, schoolyards, gymnasiums,
or on field trips in all aspects of the school day.
14. Assists in bus loading and unloading.
15. Serves as a major source of information and help to any substitute teacher
assigned in the absence of the regular instructional staff.
16. Exercises good judgment and decision-making skills.
17. Adheres to established laws, policies, rules, and regulations.
18. Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about
students in school environment and community.
19. Protects confidential matters regarding students, staff, and other school
division business.
20. Exhibits a positive image as a representation of the school division in attitude,
demeanor, appearance, communication, and relationships.
21. Models professional, moral and ethical standards, and personal integrity.
22. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
23. Serves as a positive role model for students.
24. Provides for the health and hygiene of students as directed by the
immediate supervisor.

Instructional aides assigned to a computer lab will have the following
responsibilities:
 Provides technological support to individual students or small groups
of students to reinforce learning initially introduced and outlined by
instructional staff.
 Assists instructional staff in devising strategies to reinforce student
learning through technology.
 Assists the classroom instructor to verify student performance of
Standards of Learning technology objectives.
 Maintains an inventory of available software technology resources
and disseminates information to instructional staff.
 Provides initial assessment of technological issues to determine if a
work order process is needed.
 Chronicles school activities through digital photography as
assigned.
Performs other such duties/assignments as directed by the principal or
or classroom teacher.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Days determined as specified by the school calendar.

EVALUATION: Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school
board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of classified personnel.
