The primary role of the RE is to work collaboratively with the department in each phase of the department’s decision making process, to improve outcomes for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children. The aim of the Recognised Entity is to assist the Department to help reduce the over-representation of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children and young people in the statutory child protection system, and to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people who enter the statutory system receive the best available culturally appropriate services. Responsibilities To identify needs and services to assist and support children who are experiencing harm or at risk of harm and their families. Research and collect cultural history on families to reconnect and unify children with their families, extended families and kinship groups. Where harm or risk of harm has occurred, to assess, in partnership with the Department of Communities (Child Safety), what intervention process needs to occur to ensure the ongoing safety of the children or young person are met. To provide culturally appropriate services to clients of the agency and the Department of Communities (Child Safety) in keeping with the Child Placement Principles. This will require consultation, negotiation and engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and other agencies and relevant government departments. Ensure that all required documentation, to help achieve the best outcome for the family, are recorded and processed in the given timeframe in conjunction with the Department of Communities (Child Safety) and any other mainstream parties that are involved. Liaise and develop links with relevant stakeholders including families, community agencies and relevant Government agencies. Participate effectively as a team member in delivery well-planned support services to vulnerable children and families. Within the aims and objectives of the Foster and Kinship Care Program ensure that efficient and effective administration of services, including administration systems, information technology and human resource processes, are managed, implemented and maintained within the FKC Program. The Foster Kinship Care Officer with the support of the Snr FKC is to provide a culturally appropriately service to clients of the program with the Department of Child Safety, ensuring that placements meet the Statement of Standards, s122(1) of the Child Protection Act 1999 Provide placements for children and young people subject to statutory intervention that meet the requirements of the Statements of Standards, a122 (1) of the Child Protection Act 1999. 2. Provide Carers with the knowledge, skills and resources to provide a quality standard of care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people including placements which meet their physical, social, emotional, cultural and educational needs.
