2013 SUMMER CAMPS June 3 - 7 In the Beginning… June 10 - 14 Splish Splash The theme for this week is taken from Genesis 1… In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth…. Our week will be structured as follows: This week your child will learn to think way outside the box as he/she learns five fabulously fun painting techniques using wacky household items. (And just to make certain that we stay sharp for school, on Wednesday and Friday students will use a Venn Diagram to prepare a short piece of writing to compare and contrast two different techniques.) Monday We will cover days one and two of creation, first how light was separated from darkness and then how the sky was placed over the waters. Students will use round plates for canvases as they learn blending and sponging techniques. Tuesday Our focus will be the 3rd day of creation and how the land and seas were formed and the land was enriched with vegetation. Students will learn stenciling. Square plates will be our canvas. Wednesday On the 4th day God created the sun, the moon and the stars. Students will elect to paint a ceramic sun or a crescent moon with two stars. Our academic focus both today and tomorrow will center on the different styles and uses of paint brushes. Thursday On the 5th day God created birds and sea life. Students will paint a dolphin, shark or owl figurine. Friday On the 6th day God created land animals and man. Students will apply lessons learned during the week as they paint a self portrait and their choice of a panther, panda or horse. As we splish and splash our way through the week, we will use Shaving cream on Monday A Toothbrush on Tuesday Bubbles on Wednesday Vertical Blinds on Thursday Bubble Wrap on Friday June 17 - 21 Technique Boutique Students will learn a new painting technique each day, and by the end of the week he/she will have decorated a collection of five plates which can be used for dinnerware or display. June 24 - 28 Gnome Man’s Land – Part One July 29 – August 2 Technique Boutique (Repeat of June 17 – 21) This camp is one your child will never forget as he/she stretches his /her imagination through creative writing and painting. First, each student will paint a garden gnome and a variety of mystery objects which he/she will select at random. Then, they will brainstorm, plan and write short stories which incorporate each item they have painted. Parents are invited to attend on the last day to admire their child’s work and hear their stories read aloud. August 5 - 9 Splish Splash (Repeat of June 10 -14) (This is a Potter’s House Studio favorite as it incorporates imagination, fun, reading, writing, and public speaking skills!) August 12 -15 Pizza Party (Repeat of July 15 – 19) July 1 – 5 No camp scheduled this week. July 8 - 12 Gnome Man’s Land – Part Two We expect our first week of Gnome Man’s Land to be such a hit that we are offering a second week back-to-back, using a whole new batch of items selected to stretch your child’s imagination. Additional Information The cost of camp is $200 per week per child and includes writing instruction (with individualized verbal feedback*), project materials and snacks. Also included is after hours, behind-the-scenes studio production including the glazing, stilting, and firing of pottery. The best part?
