Application for ReelDance Workshops 2008 ReelDance Festival 2008 focuses on dance and movement in everyday life featuring ballroom, flamenco, hip hop and parkour. The festival tour kicks off in Melbourne with a multi-faceted program co-presented by Arts House, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image and Dancehouse. At Arts House, North Melbourne Town Hall, UK artists Katrina McPherson and Simon Fildes present their installation the Move-Me Booth, an adaptation of the photo booth environment where you can create your own short dance films and upload them to Move-Me’s award-winning website. Artists Biographies Katrina McPherson is an award-winning video dance-maker whose works have been shown at festivals across the world. Katrina's experience and insight in her field was recognised in 2002 when she was awarded the Scottish Arts Council's Creative Scotland Award to write a work-book for video dance. 'Making Video Dance' was published by Routledge in April 2006. Katrina graduated with an Honours degree in Dance Theatre from the Laban Centre, London, in 1988, before going to complete a post-graduate diploma in Electronic Imaging at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee. Since then, she has combined her exploration of dance on screen within an arts context with a career producing and directing arts programs for the BBC, Channel 4 and ITV. Dance for screen works include 'Pace', 'Sense-8' and the IMZ DanceScreen awardwinning 'Moment' , 'The Truth' a 30 minute dance film for Ricochet Dance productions and ‘There’s Something You Should Know'. She recently directed 'Catching the Tide' a half hour documentary for Scottish TV's This Scotland series, which was produced by Goat Media Ltd, the Highland-based production company that Katrina runs with Simon Fildes. Simon turned his back on a career in Science after completing a Biology degree at Stirling University. He then spent many years as a musician before going on to complete a post-graduate diploma in Electronic Imaging at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee. Simon has edited many programs for broadcast, ranging from arts documentaries to pop promos. He has also edited and collaborated on most video dance works directed by Katrina McPherson. Simon has made many single screen video art works and projections for live dance performance works. These include collaborations with choreographer Marisa Zanotti in 'Runner', '16/17' and 'Wipe Out'. In 2000, Simon was awarded one of the Year of the Artist residencies, creating digital work at a furniture shop in Edinburgh. In 2004 he was New Dynamics artist in residence in the Highlands creating new videos, site-specific installations and a new web work 'Ardnamurchan Zillij'. Katrina McPherson and Simon Fildes’ collaborations also include works made for www.hyperchoreography.org, interactive video dances made for the web; a series of gallery and web works for the New Media Scotland 2001 'Remote' residencies project in the Highlands of Scotland; and the international award winning Move-me.com project touring interactive video dance installation and website, a co-production with Ricochet Dance Productions. Other 2005 projects include ‘Girlband’ in which a group of around 30 young people from all over East Lothian helped to make and star in their very own dance film; and ‘Nothing and Everything’ a creative arts project initiated and delivered by Occupational Therapy Day Services at Lynebank Hospital In Fife, Scotland. Katrina and Simon have created a 5 screen video work shown in January 2007. More recently their focus has shifted to collaborating with legendary British improviser and teacher Kirstie Simson to explore the nature of improvising with video. They are working on creating a Videodance / documentary as well as developing a series of workshops to explore this territory.
