Musicians, from the Beauty in Stone collection by Kristen Clark Artist's Reflection: This piece features a photograph I took of a section of a stone bench prominently displayed in a garden I visited while attending the Renaissance Festival in Houston. The bench was extremely uncomfortable to rest on because of the ornately carved scene across the width of the back of the bench. However, the beauty of the carved scene held my gaze long enough for my soul to be moved. I appreciate the strength of stone as an artistic medium, and here I associated the strength of that stone with the strength of music, and specifically of it's endurance and relevance. This piece is a tribute to the presence of music throughout history. I used embellishments that I thought would capture the essence of historical music: gold tones to capture the richness of sound; weathered paper to reflect aging instruments; an aged patina to represent lifetimes of entertainment. Additionally, I focused on a section of the scene that illustrated the joy of playing instruments, and I imagined this joy in terms of worship, and specifically worship for my Lord and Savior. "Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song". Psalm 95:2
