POLICE APPEAL
Kent Police are trying to trace a woman who witnessed an alleged theft in
Marks & Spencer in St George's Street, Canterbury.
The woman saw a customer distract the cashier by asking for some change
and sticking it in his pocket, before deciding to cancel the request for change.
The offender left the store with £40 before the cashier realised it had not been
returned.
It happened at 3 pm on Sunday 28 October. The woman, who was behind the
offender in the queue at the checkout, is asked to contact PC Jemma Love
from the neighbourhood policing team on 101 quoting crime reference
ZY/31126/12.
REQUEST FOR INFORMATION
Kent Trading Standards have been made aware of a group of five men who have
cold called at a number of properties in the area. The incidents we are aware of
have happened since the start of November. They typically act as if they know the
residents of the house in some way, use a first name to introduce themselves and
subsequently talk work up out of thin air, seeking to take the maximum amount of
cash for the minimum effort. The work they have 'done' so far includes roofing and
gardening. We have good descriptions of some of these males:
1: Approx 5'6'' to 5'8'' dark, greying thick hair, normal complexion and local
accent, soft hands, not worn like builders, possibly in his 40's.
2: Approx 5'10'' to 6' tall, solid and big build, not fat with a jowly very red face with
stubble. Short, dark hair. Again a local accent.
3: Young man, late teens early 20's. Black hair, brown eyes, olive complexion and
often the one who does any actual work.
They have used up to two different vehicles, sometimes both at the same time - a
Transit type van, possibly grey or white, and a large, dark coloured 4x4.
If you suspect you have been cold called by or seen this group recently we would
very much like to speak to you - you might have the piece of information, however
insignificant it may seem, that enables us to identify and track down this group.
Please contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Service, quote Trading Standards
Reference 360270 and ask for your information to be forwarded to us.
