JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Support Worker Location: Portfield School residential service Reporting to: Deputy Manager/ Senior Support Worker Staff reporting to you: None Main purpose of job: Promote the well-being and education of all students within the residential and education areas of Portfield School. Specific Responsibilities 1. Promote the physical, emotional, social and material well-being of children in your care 2. Ensure that the children in your care are safe and protected from harm 3. Support children in their personal and intimate care consistent with their individual needs and relevant policy 4. Respect and support the cultural diversity of children 5. Develop and maintain effective relationships with parents, carers and significant others to promote partnership and trust 6. Engage effectively with other staff in order to ensure a consistency of approach. 7. Contribute to the development of individual development and leisure plans for children and ensure their implementation 8. Support children in pursuing development and leisure opportunities 9. Where applicable, support children in managing their challenging behaviours and, where identified as part of their personal plan and where you have received appropriate training, engage in physical intervention when required. 10. Support education programmes whilst in school 11. Maintain records according to agreed procedures. 12. Attend case conferences and other meetings as required 13. Contribute to the domestic management of the residential home in which you work and engage in food preparation and associated activities 14. Carry out a Keyworker role with designated children 15. When appropriately trained, administer medication consistent with Charity policy 116103236 1 16. Undertake sleep-in duties as required 17. When appropriately trained, driving of Charity vehicles Confidentiality Maintain confidentiality for all areas of Autism Wessex, its staff and its work. The nature of the work within the service entrusts people with confidential information about people with autism, their families/carers and staff. Any breach of confidentiality will constitute gross misconduct General Responsibilities 1. Promote a positive image of autism, the service at Portfield School and Autism Wessex. 2. Co-operate with all Autism Wessex staff to maintain harmonious inter-personal relationships and to promote good relationships with outside agencies and the general public. 3. Ensure that your conduct within and outside Portfield School does not conflict with professional expectations of Autism Wessex. 4. Actively support and promote Autism Wessex and all its policies including ‘Equal Opportunities’. 5. Attend staff meetings and training as required. 6. Ensure an awareness and observation of Fire and Health and Safety Regulations. 7. Ensure the respect, dignity and right to privacy of service users as far as possible. 8. Participate in regular supervision and appraisal with your Line Manager (and staff for whom you are responsible, if applicable). 9.
