Juanita Harvey Art Gallery at Midwestern State University will present Extinct,
Endangered, Vulnerable, Threatened, Intact and Invented: Work by Catherine
Prose in the main gallery, Friday, January 23, 2009 through Friday, February 23,
2009. The opening reception will be held Friday, January 23, 2009 from 6 p.m. to
8 p.m. with an artist talk at 6:30 p.m.Catherine Prose is assistant professor
of art and gallery director for The Juanita Harvey Art Gallery at Midwestern State
University. Prose holds a bachelor of art from Cameron University and a master
of fine art from Texas Tech University. In the span of Prose’s career she has
organized over 55 exhibits and her art work has been included in over 35
exhibitions which consist of solo, juried and invitational showings. Prose is a
mixed media artist working in printmaking, painting, drawing and photography. As
part of Prose’s tenure requirement the exhibition Extinct, Endangered,
Vulnerable, Threatened, Intact and Invented will represent current work produced
by Prose as a result of a research project entitled Red Listed. Red Listed is a
research project that was funded in part by a Midwestern State University
Research Grant and the Lamar D. Fain College of Fine Arts Research/Creative
Grant. The research for Red Listed was conducted in coordination with Brian
Aucone, general curator at the Oklahoma City Zoo, where Prose photographed
species categorized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature
(IUCN)’s Red List and in the captive care at the OKC Zoo.
