General Goal: Students will understand the five religions of Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism and Islam focusing on the geographic origins, founders, and beliefs or teachings of each. Students will understand where each religion originated and be able to locate the location on a map. 2. Students will understand who founded each religion. 3. Students will become knowledgeable about the beliefs of each religion. 4. Students will learn new vocabulary for each religion and use the vocabulary in presentations. Class Activities: 1. Complete K-W-L charts throughout the week (what you know-what you want to know-what you learned). 2. Students will view short videos about each religion from: www.unitedstreaming.com 3. Students will complete viewing guides while watching videos. 4. Word Sorts with the essential vocabulary of each religion. 5. Group Presentations: Groups are formed, one religion is assigned, and students become knowledgeable about the religion, and present the findings to the class. (Students will research and must include in the presentation: the geographic origin, founders, practices, and any other essential/fun facts). 6. Review game as a class (teams will be formed and questioned about the religions, score can be kept). 7. One quiz over the 5 religions: Geographic origin (map), founders, and beliefs. Evaluation: 1. Students will receive up to 10 points for the K-W-L chart upon completion. 2. Students will receive up to 5 points for each of the viewing guides upon completion for a total of 20 points for the 5 religions. 3. Students will receive up to 15 points for the participation in the presentation. 4. Students will receive up to 15 points for the quiz over the 5 religions.
