The Core Programme offers Literacy and
Numeracy at Entry, Level 1 and Level 2.
These classes work towards the National adult
Basic Skills Exams, which take place on
monthly basis for which an £8 bonus is paid.
Our fully equipped IT suites offer a chance to
learn or improve your IT skills leading to the
nationally recognised new CLAIT and
CLAIT Plus or EDCL qualifications. Once
you have reached Level 2 in all Maths and
English you can do advanced IT in the form
of Computer Aided Design.
We offer a wide range of Social and Life
Skills modules that generally involve 30
hours of study. Current modules available are
Drug and Alcohol Awareness, Assertiveness
and Decision Making, Budgeting and Money
Management, Family Relationships, sex and
relationships and Parenting.
There are also excellent Art and Design and
Ceramic s courses leading to Open College
qualifications up to Level 3.
For those who want to study above level 2,
we offer a higher level-learning course. With
the help of your probation and various
charitable agencies we will help you to
arrange funding. Once you are in possession
of your course materials you can attend a
class every morning, if you are employed
somewhere else within the prison tutorial
sessions are available in an afternoon All
courses will be incorporated into a sentence
plan target and have to be approved by
probation, the public protection unit, lifer
team etc, for appropriateness.
A variety of providers including the Open
University deliver correspondence courses in
a number of subjects. If you are unsure of
which subject you wish to study an openings
course may help you decide. These are short
introductory courses from the Open
University designed to help you decide if you
are ready to commit yourself to a full
programme of study.
As part of the vocational education
programme we offer full time courses in
Painting and Escorting and Wall and Floor
Tiling. These extremely popular courses are
15 weeks long and lead to nationally
recognised qualifications.
Finally for those who are employed in
Workshops or on other courses we have a
tutor who visits the Workshop each week to
P/T, F/T or
Vocational for
each course.
help you with your basic skills and give
