Public Health Reports Call for Papers on Public Health Implications of Nanotechnology – Due November 1, 2007 Public Health Reports released a call for papers for a special issue on Public Health Implications of Nanotechnology this week. Guest editors for this special issue, Dr. Andrew Maynard of the Woodrow Wilson Foundation along with Dr. Laurence Reed and Dr. Paul Schulte of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health for (NIOSH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), are looking for manuscripts that advance the applied scientific knowledge on understanding and managing the impact of nanotechnology to public health. Topics of interest include: unique potential health implications of engineered nanomaterials, from production to disposal; trends in exposure and disease occurrence, including surveillance associated with the materials and products of nanotechnology; policy, legal, ethical and economic implications on public health; interventions and recommendations for reducing potential negative impact of nanotechnology on public health; and, identifying and addressing research needs and gaps. The editors are encouraging a broad range of manuscripts, including international submissions that provide a global perspective on challenges and solutions to addressing the public health implications of nanotechnology. Articles in Public Health Reports are typically 2,500-3,000 words in length. Longer manuscripts, when appropriate, will be considered. All manuscripts reviewed and approved by the guest editors and the Pubic Health Reports Editorial Committee will be sent for external peer review. The submission deadline for manuscripts is no later than Thursday, November 1. The publication date for the Special Issue is planned for July/August 2008.
