Frontier Research Problems in Communication Networks and Systems Since 2006, ACCESS has worked on problems in communication networks and systems. At this point, the center has built up resources and expertise and is ready to venture further. The center as a whole should ask the following question: What research problems in the area of communication networks and systems will be of high relevance in the future? The goal of the project is to identify and formulate research problems that have not been solved yet, but are considered as highly relevant for future development. These problems should be put into context and published in a book. This project is high-risk with respect to identification of relevant problems and their (mathematical) formulation. Moreover, this project is high-payoff as it will be highly cited in future research, if successful. Suggested Format The suggested format of the publication is as follows: Edited book with chapter contributions Contributions from ACCESS researchers as individuals or groups (each founding ACCESS faculty should contribute as individual or member of a group) Invited contributions from non-ACCESS researchers (preferably former distinguished lecturers) Each chapter summarizes the state-of-the-art, including own contributions to the area, followed by a formulation (descriptive or formal) of an open research problem that is considered as highly relevant for future development The goal is to find a major publisher for the edited book. Preparation To prepare for the writing of the final chapter manuscripts, all authors will participate in a workshop to present their chapter contributions. At the time of the workshop, the ideas should be well prepared and ready for presentation and discussion. However, the final chapter manuscripts should reflect the outcome of the workshop.
