PROJECT SUMMARY
The project is new and the promoter would want to utilise the available raw
materials (wood pulp, banana stem/fibre pulp and other bagasse pulp) to
satisfy over 70% of the local demand currently met by imported paper
products. In the long run, the promoters also plan to own wood pulp
forests for sustenance. The project is looking for partners to launch the
project. Expected cost of the project is US$26 million.
National Housing and Construction Corporation is a parastatal body
established by an Act of Parliament in 1964 where government of Uganda
owns 100%. With the changing business environment, the corporation has
changed its role from that of building and managing estate to that of
building and selling. The Corporation is worth US$ 40 million in the terms
of assets net worth and it is profitable. The company is therefore looking
for a strategic investor for cooperation in its expansion programme.
The objective of the Masaka Fruit Project is to establish a significant sized
production unit, using the available raw materials to create export oriented
business model by adding enough value to make a profitable and viable
business. The foreign partner is expected to supply technology, access to
important market players and some investment capital. At present the
existing juice factory is idle. When the factory was bought from Masaka
Cooperative Union it was named Masaka Fruit Processing Ltd and because
of old equipment, the promoters feel that there is need to up grade the
technical department of the project for efficient quality production.

Bunyonyi Safaris Ltd
PROJECT SUMMARY
Bunyonyi Safaris Ltd. is looking for lime extraction equipment as well as a
partner for their project for the production of high quality lime. The lime
will be used for construction, as calcium based agricultural fertilizers and
animal stock feed. The project site covers an area of about 10 acres in
Busanza village, near River Kaku in Southwestern Uganda. The company
owns a limestone mine with substantial limestone deposits. Presently the
company is crudely producing lime using a modern vertical kiln but the
mining, hydration, sieving and bagging of the lime is done manually. This
renders the process very slow. The aim of the project is to mechanize
these processes in order to produce more quantities in a shorter time. The
company has supplied lime to major road constructors such as Sterling,
ROKO construction and Honest Construction Company.
Many other
construction companies have expressed desire to be supplied but due to the
low volumes demand is not always met. The company is seeking for a joint
venture/ long-term financing/ equipment purchase in order to install the
lime plant and a 3 -10 kW power turbine for generation of own electricity
for the kiln and balance of power will be supplied to the national power
grid.
Expected project cost is estimated at US$2.1 million.
Bunyonyi Safaris Ltd., a Ugandan company is seeking for price quotations
for both a 50-100 tons per day mini cement plant and a 3-10 kW hydroelectric power turbine for its proposed cement production project in South
Western Uganda. The company owns a limestone mine with substantial
limestone deposits. The aim of the project is to produce cement and
therefore requires the technology to produce and bag cement. The
company is interested in a mini cement plant as well as a mini hydro power
plant. There are waterfalls at River Kaku where the power turbine will be
installed to produce the electricity required by the cement plant - excess
electricity will be supplied to the national power grid. A strategic investor is
also being sought.
Expected project cost is US$1.3 million.

PROJECT SUMMARY
This factory was financed by the EU and was privatized in 1995.It produces
black made tea for exports with a realised turnover of over US$ 2.5 millions
in 2002. The sales are managed by UTDA (Uganda Tea Development
Agency Ltd.) with the company having two main activities: training farmers
for a standardized production and transformation of green tea leaves. The
factory is working at full capacity at the moment and now seeks for a
partner for its expansion programme to up grade the technical department
to increase its throughput as well as market penetration in Europe and Asia.
Currently the company employs 250 people and plans to invest additional
US$100,000 for its expansion programme.
Bushenyi district is one of the biggest milk producers in Uganda. The
Cooperative Society currently deals in milk collection but has problems with
milk in period of glut, hence the need to process milk to increase it shelf life
while marketing. The plan is to pasteurize and pack milk which some can be
exported to neighboring countries like Rwanda and Congo where there is
high demand. This Society is assisted by Land O’Lakes, which helps it in
farming and technical advice with milk processing. The Society is seeking
for partnership support to conduct marketing survey, a feasibility study,
equipment purchase and technical know-how.
The proposed investment is estimated at US$1.4 million.
The company produces and exports certified organic dried and fresh fruits
and vegetables (Swiss IMO certified). The company started in 1990 under
the name Suntrade and Consulting; in 1998 it was incorporated into a
bigger one named Amfri farms Ltd. The total tonnage of fruits and
vegetables exported in 2001 was about 295 tons for a turnover around 295
000 dollars. The quality of the products is very high and sells them across
Europe already. They need new market in European countries, expert in
agro-processing to advice them on equipment, installation and technology
while conscious of the organic niche market.

services in the country.
Victoria Commercial Enterprises Ltd. is an export company dealing in fruits
