POF WORKSHOPS, ANDÚJAR, SPAIN: 14-20 OCTOBER 2012
Important Information
1. EUROS: You need euros on arrival to pay for tickets in Madrid,
Granada or Malaga. If you are flying to Malaga or Granada please let
me know and I will e-mail you with information on bus times. The
journeys take a lot longer to Andújar from Malaga or Granada.
2. FLIGHTS: MADRID: The easiest combination is to fly to MADRID.
You have to cross Madrid on the metro in order to get to the bus
station, Méndez Álvaro, then follow the metro instructions below:
a) THE METRO in Madrid:
The metro ticket costs 5euros from the airport to the coach station. It
takes about one hour to go between the airport metro stop and the bus
station. You can download the metro map on:
http://www.metromadrid.es/acc_resources/pdfs/Plano_Metro_2008.pdf
Otherwise, you can pick up a map on arrival at the metro station when
you pay for your metro ticket. Or you can just follow my instructions! :
i)
When you come out of the airport terminal (1,2,3 or 4) follow the
small sign up above saying ´Metro` until you get to the metro station.
It’s a 10 minute walk and you have to keep your eyes peeled for the
small metro sign as you have to turn to the left at one point.
ii)
Buy your tickets from the person in the metro booth) or if you feel
confident buy the tickets from one of the many ticket machines).
People don’t tend to understand English. You say: ´Tres para Mendez
Alvaro` (which means ´Three to Mendez Alvaro`-the name of the coach
station) and that’s it! Please is, ´por favor`.
iii)
THEN TURN LEFT WHEN YOU GO THROUGH THE TURN
STYLE AND GO DOWN THE ESCALATOR TO THE METRO
PLATFORM.
iv)
Take:
- The pink line, no.8, from the Airport metro stop to NUEVOS
MINISTERIOS.
- Then take the grey line, no.6, circle line (´circular`) to MENDEZ
ALVARO, the bus and coach station.
b) THE BUS/COACH STATION, Méndez Álvaro, in Madrid:
The bus ticket costs 23,05 euros return per person from the coach
station in Madrid to the bus station in Andújar and back again. The
journey is direct and takes about 3 and a half hours. The coach usually
leaves from platform 16, 17 or 18. It says the platform number on the
screen about 20 minutes before leaving. YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT
THE FRONT OF THE BUS AND CHECK IT SAYS IT’S GOING TO
ANDÚJAR! AS WELL AS LOOKING ON YOUR TICKET AT WHERE IT
SAYS ‘COCHE’ (which means bus number); THE BUS NUMBER FOR
ANDÚJAR IS USUALLY 21 OR 22.
i)
Buy your tickets from one of the many ticket booths. The
company is SECORBUS and the timetable is detailed below. (Although
you can also find it on the internet if you type in the company name).
ii)
It is best to book your return trip at the same time as you buy
your trip to Andújar. (Or if you prefer you can do it in Andújar before the
last day - coaches are not usually fully booked.) HAVE YOUR TIMES
WRITTEN DOWN TO SHOW THEM WHEN YOU BOOK THE
JOURNEY-see example below.
iii)
Usually if you are going to Andújar you have to put your luggage
on the LEFT hand side of the bus (the people going to Córdoba will put
theirs on the right). Ask the bus driver. The end of the line is
CÓRDOBA.
iv)
Sometimes the buses stop for a 15-20 minute break (= descanso
de quince minutos) 40 minutes before you arrive in Andújar. When you
arrive in Andújar take your luggage off the bus quickly because they
have to continue on to Córdoba (it’s the first town the bus will stop in so
don’t worry about getting off in the wrong place!).
