Microsoft-CUHK Joint Laboratory for Human-centric Computing & Interface Technologies (MS-CU-JL) Visiting Researchers and Visiting Research Students Grant 1. Objective Support for postgraduate students and researchers (including postdoctoral fellows, scholars and junior faculty members) from other universities to visit MS-CU-JL to conduct joint research with our faculty members. Topics of research should be related to the research theme of MS-CU-JL, namely computer vision & graphics, speech & natural language processing for multimodal human-computer interaction, multimedia content indexing and retrieval as well as multimedia services for heterogeneous wireless networks. 2. Background Funding is provided by the University for MS-CU-JL, based on dollar-for-dollar matching. For each application, proof of matching fund is needed. MS-CU-JL can match up to HKD12,000 per month for a maximum duration of 6 months per visiting student; or up to HKD20,000 per month for a maximum duration of 3 months per visiting researcher, following the University’s salary guidelines. Limited to one grant per individual visitor per year. 3. Acknowledgement Supported research outputs should include the acknowledgement clause “This work is affiliated with the Microsoft-CUHK Joint Laboratory for Human-centric Computing & Interface Technologies”. The research outputs will be archived in the MS-CU-JL Annual Report. This research report will also document research trips / activities that are related to and/or supported by MS-CU-JL. 4. Application Procedures and Reviews Applications should be submitted by CUHK faculty members who are Principal Investigators of project grants and the main collaborator/supervisor of the visitor during his/her stay in CUHK. All application materials should be sent to the MS-CU-JL Management Committee. Applications will be reviewed during the regular (bi-)monthly committee meetings. Applications are accepted year-round. 5.
