UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital Launches Small Animal Theriogenology

--Full Line of Reproductive and Fertility Services Offered-October 21, 2013 - The University of California, Davis William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital
(VMTH) is pleased to announce the launch of its Small Animal Theriogenology (reproduction and fertility) Service. The
Theriogenology Service will provide the highest quality reproductive care and breeding management services to dog and
cat owners and breeders.
“We are excited to add to the VMTH’s already outstanding list of specialty services,” states Dr. W. David Wilson,
director of the VMTH. “The addition of a small animal reproductive service has been a top priority since the
replenishment of our Equine Reproduction Service last year. This service will build upon and strengthen the VMTH’s
current activities in small animal reproduction, fertility and genetic diseases.”
The Theriogenology Service will be led by Drs. Bruce Christensen (chief of the service) and Ghislane Dujovne, both
board-certified in the American College of Theriogenologists, and Dr. Autumn Davidson, who is a Diplomate of the
American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine with a special interest in small animal reproduction and fertility. They
will work together with other board-certified specialists from the VMTH’s Small Animal Internal Medicine and Small
Animal Surgery Services. The service will provide routine and advanced reproductive care, including breeding
management, insemination, pregnancy diagnosis, Caesarian sections and much more.
“Our overarching clinical goal is to provide dog and cat breeders with the most current, effective breeding management
and fertility options available at an affordable cost,” states Dr. Christensen. “Our team will work together to achieve
optimal results for our clients’ breeding needs.”
In addition to clinical care, the service will provide experience for veterinarians participating in the VMTH’s resident
training program to become reproductive specialists under the faculty’s tutelage. Also, as with every service at the
teaching hospital, the Theriogenology Service will provide clinical experience for senior students of the top-ranked UC
Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.
