Dr Hugh Gallagher Consultant Nephrologist Consultant Nephrologist St Helier Hospital (from 2004) Honorary Senior Lecturer St George’s University of London (from 2007) Hugh.Gallagher@esth.nhs.uk Dr Hugh Gallagher is a consultant renal physician based at Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George’s University of London. He has a longstanding specialist interest in chronic kidney disease (CKD). His main focus is on improving the treatment of kidney disease in primary care, and he has contributed to the evidence base for this through his work on the QI-CKD and ENABLE projects. He was clinical lead for the bid to the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership for a National Clinical Audit of CKD in primary care and sits on the Audit Board. He has worked with colleagues to make CKD a Clinical Priority for 2013-2016 with Royal College of General Practitioners, and is now working with the Kidney Care Clinical Champion, Dr Kathryn Griffith, to help deliver the priority programme. Hugh had recently developed a CKD elearning module for the BMJ with NHS Kidney Care, and sits on the Guideline Development Group for the 2013 NICE CKD Guideline update. Through his membership of the BRS CKD Strategy Group he hopes to be able to help translate these guidelines into practice.
