IDENTIFYING BILINGUAL STUDENTS ON WVEIS
1. Every student whose native language is other than English must have an active record by
completing the Bilingual Education screen (regardless of their English language proficiency).
A. Go to “Student Records”
B. Go to “Access to all Student Records”
C. Select student
D. Go to Record # 14
2. There are eleven fields that must be coded in the Bilingual Screen. The Bilingual field at the
bottom of this page shows a sample screen, as it will be displayed on WVEIS. For coding
purposes, the eleven categories have been randomly assigned a circled number (1-11). *Note – the
eleven circled numbers will not appear on the real WVEIS screen; therefore you must refer to the
“sample” for codes.
3. The chart on page 2 describes the eleven field categories, their meaning and the bolded input
codes for each. (Codes highlighted in yellow denote changes from previous coding requirements).
4. *Foreign exchange students should not be identified on the Bilingual screen (record #14) unless
they are receiving alternative language services (ESL etc.).
