Some Online Degrees Details
Iowa State University (MS)
Iowa State University offers a Master of Engineering in Systems Engineering degree through distance
education. The systems engineering program extends the ability of engineers to work across disciplinary
boundaries. It also develops the management capabilities needed in today's work environment.
Engineers, regardless of undergraduate discipline, can develop the analytical abilities needed to design,
evaluate, and build complex systems involving many components and demanding specifications.
Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Systems Engineering Core Courses
Six graduate credits in the general area of systems engineering. All students must take:
AerE/EE/IE 565: System Engineering and Analysis (3 credits)
IE 566: Applied Systems Engineering (3 credits)
Elective Engineering Courses
Fifteen graduate credits in advanced engineering. These courses are determined by the student and academic advisor to fit the
needs of the individual student’s program.
Elective Non-Engineering courses
Six credits outside of the engineering fields that meet individual educational objectives. These might come from business,
economics, computer science, mathematics or statistics, among other areas.
Elective course
One additional 3-credit course. This course could be chosen from either category 2 or 3 above based on the needs of the
individual student’s program with guidance from the academic advisor.

Missouri S&T (Certificate)
The Graduate Certificate in Systems Engineering is designed to provide graduate engineers and
engineering managers with the advanced knowledge and skills necessary for the conception and
implementation of complex systems. The emphasis is on the processes by which complex systems are
conceived, planned, designed, built, tested and certified. The systems engineering experience can be
applied to defense, space, aircraft, communications, navigation, sensor, computer software, computer
hardware, transportation, and other aerospace and commercial systems activities. The graduate courses
selected for the program will count towards an MS degree in Systems Engineering.
Required three core courses:
SysEng 368: Systems Engineering and Analysis I
SysEng 468: Systems Engineering and Analysis II
SysEng 469: Systems Architecting
And one of the following:
SysEng 411: Systems Engineering Management
SysEng 412: Complex Engineering Systems Project Management
SysEng 413: Economic Analysis of Systems Engineering Projects
Missouri S&T (MS)
The Masters of Science in Systems Engineering can be pursued with or without a thesis. Each program
requires 30 hours of credit beyond the Bachelors degree.
