The Massachusetts Aspirations in Computing Affiliate Award (MACAA) program's goal is to celebrate the computing
achievements and aspirations of young women of Massachusetts and generate visibility for women’s participation in
computing-related pursuits. Led by Cambridge-based ITA Software, Massachusetts technology companies,
universities and organizations are joining together to launch this inaugural regional affiliate award program in
partnership with the national sponsor, NCWIT (National Center for Women and Information Technology).
Award Purpose
The Massachusetts Aspirations in Computing Affiliate Award (MACAA) acknowledges the computing achievements
and aspirations of young women, and generates visibility for women’s participation in computing-related pursuits.
The Award Ceremony will be held at Microsoft’s NERD Center on November 21, 2010
Each qualified award recipient will receive a variety of goodies!
The overall winner receives:
The University of Massachusetts Lowell is pleased to announce that it will offer a $10,000 scholarship to the overall
winner of the 2010 Boston Area NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing. The student must meet the university's
admissions standards and attend UMass Lowell as a full-time student for four years. The scholarship will be paid in
four annual installments of $2,500, provided that the student maintains a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at
least 3.0 and remains a student in good standing.
Am I eligible?
» Applicants must be high-school level girls (grades 9-12).
» Applicants must reside in Massachusetts.
» Applicants should have a demonstrated outstanding aptitude and interest in IT/computing, and
demonstrated leadership ability.
» Applicants should have good academic history, typically a GPA of 3.0 or better.
» Applicants should have post-secondary education plans.
» Students from groups underrepresented in computing and current Juniors/Seniors are strongly
encouraged to apply.
» Past applicants including semi-finalists are encouraged to apply, however, previous award-winners are not
eligible to reapply or receive any awards.
» Relatives of employees or board members of NCWIT are prohibited from receiving the award.

Application opens September 6, 2010! Visit www.ncwit.org/award. Online applications must be submitted by 11:59PM
on October 15, 2010. Parent/guardian and school endorsement must be completed by 11:59PM on October 22, 2010.
