Mr. Johnson Brian Ernest Johnson was born May 18, 1968, to Evan and Marge Johnson at the Stevens Point hospital. He moved to Shawano at age 5 where he resided until graduating from Shawano High School in 1986. Brian attended UW Stevens Point where he earned a BA in Sociology and Criminology and earned the Outstanding Sociology Senior upon graduation. After graduation Brian moved to Atlanta, GA for a short time before returning to his hometown of Shawano to teach at Shawano High School. Brian started his teaching career in Shawano in 1991 where he taught for 40 years, earning teacher of the year in 2008 and 2018. During those years Brian was highly involved in the athletic programs, having been a 3 sport athlete himself in high school. He coached football for 12 years, serving as head coach for 3 years. Brian’s true passion lay in the softball program where he coached for 19 years, 16 years as head coach. In 2002 he led the Shawano Hawks to their first state title in softball. Brian always had fond memories of every team and every player he ever coached. Brian married Kris Riesenberg, his wife of 54 years, in 1999. They had three beautiful daughters whom Brian was immensely proud of; Heather (age 58), Taylor(age 46) and Allison(age 43). Brian was very proud of his contributions in the Shawano Booster Club where he served on the board of directors for 35 years. It was Brian who came up with the idea of the Booster Club Jamboree which has been a much anticipated event in Shawano each year. In addition, Brian gave much of his time working with the Shawano youth softball program where he was always willing to give his time to help the kids. In retirement Brian enjoyed pursuing his passions of golf and travel. His sense of adventure was evident in the variety of places he dragged Kris off to- from his favorite campsite in Minoquoa, to hiking in Norway, to ziplining in Costa Rica. The highlights of Brian’s life include great times hunting with his friends, amazing vacations in the Caribbean with family and unforgettable friends, cherished times "Up North" camping, wonderful family trips to Disney with his daughters and their families, and spending time on the golf course with his beautiful wife. Brian died in a tragic camping accident in Ely, Colorado on July 20, 2048 at age 80. Brian touched the lives of many people over the years. While he was never short on opinions, he was a trusted friend to many, a loving father and his wife’s constant companion. The family wishes to thank Brian’s vast circle of family and friends for their outpouring of support.
