Internal Job Description
General and Specific Duties:
The successful Clinical Track candidate will be expected to:
1. Provide clinical teaching and service in the Cornell University Hospital for Animals
[Companion Animal Hospital] including shared after-hours support with the other
faculty for the Neurology resident on primary duty/call.
2. Have a distribution of effort approximately 65 - 75 % clinical teaching and service
in the Cornell University Hospital for Animals, 20 - 30% didactic/laboratory
instruction and collaborative research, and 5% other service to the Section,
Department, and College.
3. Assist in the training of Neurology and other specialty residents including Small
Animal Surgery residents, and rotating interns.
4. Provide didactic and laboratory instruction to veterinary students.
5. Provide continuing education to the local, state and national veterinary community.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have:
1.
DVM or equivalent degree;
2.
Board certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine
(Neurology).

Faculty Position in Neurology/Neurosurgery
The Department of Clinical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University
invites applications for a Clinical Track faculty position in the Section of Neurology and
Neurosurgery. Salary, rank, and title will be commensurate with the academic credentials and
experience of the successful candidate. Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree, and
board certification in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Neurology).
Training and experience in neurosurgery is essential.
The successful candidate will join a team of two board-certified faculty
neurologists/neurosurgeons, three residents and two licensed veterinary technicians in providing
service in Cornell University’s Companion Animal Hospital. Priority will be for clinical service
and teaching with further distribution of effort determined in accordance with the service needs,

academic priorities, and the candidate’s areas of expertise within the specialty of
Neurology/Neurosurgery.
The hospital is a comprehensive teaching and referral center with advanced diagnostic
capabilities, including MRI (1.5T), CT (16-slice spiral CT), fluoroscopy, and intraoperative
ultrasound. The service also has a MRI-guided stereotactic brain biopsy system (Brainsight),
electrodiagnostic testing (Cadwell Lab, Inc., Sierra Wave), and a Cavitron Ultrasonic Surgical
Aspirator (CUSA).
Responsibilities will include shared oversight and training of neurology residents, surgery
residents, rotating interns, and veterinary students. The candidate is expected to provide
excellent clinical care for medical and surgical patients. The appointee will be responsible for
didactic and laboratory instruction to veterinary students and house officers, active continuing
education to the veterinary community, and will be expected to participate in collaborative
clinical research. Cornell University is a world-class research institution; hence there are
extensive opportunities on campus for collaboration.
Clinical duties require flexible working hours including daytime, evening, and weekend
responsibilities. After-hours and emergency back-up support for Neurology residents will be
shared among Neurology faculty; however, the Companion Animal Hospital is also supported by
24/7 Emergency Receiving and Critical Care Services, and Anesthesiology Service. The
candidate should exhibit outstanding interpersonal skills and a cooperative work ethic that will
interface well with all sections of the hospital.
