MEDIA RELEASE
DD-MMM-YY
Time for Tea with the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society
Members and friends of the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) in {insert location} put their
baking skills to the test when they hosted a tea party on {insert date} at {insert location}. The tea party was
an opportunity to raise funds for NRAS and raise awareness of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), and Juvenile
Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA). There are currently 690,000 people living with RA and 12,000 children and young
people living with JIA.
The tea party helped raise {insert value} for NRAS and this will go towards providing support to those with
RA and JIA and campaigning for those with the chronic condition to have better access to services.
{Insert event organiser} comments, “I’d like to thank all those who came along and supported us by
donating their baking skills or money. It was their effort that made the event a great success. As well as
having a fun time, I hope everyone who came along also left with a little more knowledge of rheumatoid
arthritis”
Recipes were kindly supplied by numerous celebrity chefs including Lorraine Pascale and quotes were
kindly given about the importance of tea parties by our recent Bake Off contestants Frances Quinn and
Ruby Tandoh. So, if ‘Spiced Orange Cake’ or ‘White Chocolate & Pistachio Sponge Blondies’ are starting to
get your taste buds tingling, then download the recipes from www.nras.org.uk/teaparty where you can
also learn more about rheumatoid arthritis and the work of NRAS.

Notes:

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the joint tissue
causing inflammation, stiffness, pain and extreme fatigue. If left untreated, the joint can lose its shape
and alignment and lead to permanent disability. It is a systemic disease and can affect other organs too.

Rheumatoid arthritis can affect people of any age. Around three quarters of people with rheumatoid
arthritis are first diagnosed when of working age and women are three times as likely as men to have
the disease.

The mission of NRAS is ‘working for a better life for people living with rheumatoid arthritis’ by providing
information, education, support and advocacy; raising public and government awareness of RA;
campaigning for equity of access to best treatment and care; and facilitating the networking of people
with RA and encouraging self-help.
