Guardian Protective Coatings Pty Ltd Email:gary@guardit.net A.C.N. 061 748 543 PRODUCT INFORMATION SHEET PRODUCT: GUARDIAN GRAFFITI SHIELD Product Code: GGSPI Issue Date: JANUARY 2015 Page 1 of 3 Description Environmently friendly, water based anti graffiti impregnation with a sacrificial layer which will remain effective if not removed for up to 10 years, when correctly applied to properly prepared surfaces. Guardian Graffiti Shield is a milky, fast and transparent drying, aqueous impregnation for absorbent, cementitious facade surfaces. An anti graffiti effect results after the application has dried. The surface structure of the surface to be treated remains as it is. Its colour deepens and any glossiness will be slightly reduced. Graffiti from spray paints can be cleaned with hot steam approx. 80C - 90C in a spray procedure or from non porous surfaces with Guardian Graffiti Remover or Guardian Graffiti Gel. A part of the impregnation dissolves (sacrificial layer) off the surface and must be reapplied after cleaning. Guardian Graffiti Shield also reduces the absorption of water and pollutants. After application, Guardian Graffiti Shield covers capillary and pore walls with a macromolecular layer, reducing water vapour diffusion capacity. Uses Guardian Graffiti Shield can be used for treating absorbent, cementitious building materials on wall areas, as well as in certain cases non absorbent substrates. Suitability and compatability should be assessed. Constructional defects such as, eg. Cracks, cracked joints, faulty connections, rising and hygroscopic moisture must be corrected first. It must be ensured that water and damaging salts dissolved in the water cannot penetrate behind the treated area. Before any hydrophobising impregnation is carried out, crusts from soiling and pollutants, as well as efflorescence, alga and moss must be removed by a suitable cleaning method. Cleaning opens capillaries and pores so that the impregnation agent can be absorbed. When cleaning, be careful not to damage building substance any more than necessary. Cleaner residue (eg. wetting agents) from prior cleaning may impair the reduction of water absorbency on the treated surfaces and should therefore be thoroughly washed off. Surface condition: If building damaging salts are present, a quantitative analysis is essential. High concentrations of damaging salts (especially chlorides and nitrates) lead to constructional damage that cannot be prevented by a hydrophobic impregnation. Adjoining surfaces: Those parts of the surface that are not to be impregnated such as, eg. windows, varnished surfaces or surfaces to be varnished and glass, as well as plants should be covered with (polyethylene) sheeting. Application procedure: The impregnation agent is applied in a pressureless flow coating procedure generously enough that a 30-50cm long film of liquid runs down the building material surfaces. The spray jet should be held horizontally and lead continuously along the facade. After absorption of the impregnation agent, the process is to be repeated at least once. Adjust spraying pressure and jet diameter so that misting does not occur. To avoid missing places, limited sections should be completely impregnated at one time, without interruption. For smaller, complicated surfaces that do not allow a spray or flow coat application, use a brush or roller. With this method, insufficient application amounts can only be avoided by using well saturated tools. The freshly treated surface must be protected against driving rain for at least 5 hours. Strong wind and direct sunlight can also accelerate evaporation of the carrier agent which negatively influences penetration depth. Working temperature: Treatment of surfaces can be carried out at an object temperature ranging between 10C to 25C. Tools: All low pressure, conveyor and spray equipment and liquid pumps - are suitable. The equipment must be clean and dry. After use and before longer work pauses, clean thoroughly with water.
