The following apply to the performance of all outcomes of this unit standard:
a All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented
worksite health and safety and environmental procedures (where these exceed
the code) for personal, product and worksite health and safety, and must meet the
obligations required under current legislation, including the Health and Safety in
Employment Act 1992, the Resource Management Act 1991, and their
subsequent amendments.
b All work practices must meet documented worksite operating procedures. This
includes the recording (by electronic or non-electronic means) of activities,
events, and decisions.
c All evidence of communications gathered in relation to this unit standard must be
in accordance with worksite procedures for content, recipient, timing and method.

Definitions
Corrective action may include actions such as communication to management,
communication to on-site technical person, communication to off-site technical
support person, cleaning, communication with maintenance staff, recalibration, or

Worksite policies and procedures refer to documented policies and to documented or
other directions provided to staff. These include, but are not limited to, ways of
managing health and safety, environmental considerations, quality, and production,
and must conform to legislation. Examples include standard operating procedures,
company health and safety plans, on-site briefings, and supervisor’s instructions.
Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Manage hazards associated with monitoring and controlling wood chip and wood fibre
materials contamination.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Hazards associated with monitoring and controlling wood chip and wood fibre
materials contamination are identified and actions to be taken to isolate,
minimise or eliminate the hazards are described.
Range
1.2
hazards may include but are not limited to – moving equipment,
dust, mobile plant, noise;
evidence of four is required.
Safe work practices associated with monitoring and controlling wood chip
and/or wood fibre materials contamination are identified and used in
accordance with legislative requirements and worksite policies and procedures.
Range
practices may include but are not limited to – isolation procedures,
lock-outs, emergency stops, machine guarding, the wearing of
appropriate safety equipment;
evidence of five is required.
Outcome 2
Demonstrate knowledge of customer specifications with respect to contaminants.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Customer specifications for wood chip and wood fibre materials with respect to
contamination are described in accordance with the reference text.
2.2
Effects of contaminants in wood chip and wood fibre materials during further
processing are described.
Outcome 3
Identify wood chip and wood fibre material contaminants and their sources, and take
corrective actions to eliminate or minimise the possibility of contamination.

Evidence requirements
3.1
Sources of potential contamination in wood chip and wood fibre materials are
described in accordance with worksite policies and procedures.
Range
3.2
Types of wood chip and wood fibre material contamination are identified and
matched with appropriate corrective actions in accordance with worksite policies
and procedures.
Range

sources may include but are not limited to – raw materials,
condition of processing equipment, wood fibre material transport
systems, storage area and transport vehicles.
contamination may include but is not limited to – rubber, plastic,
fabric, bark, paper, grit, metal, mill refuse, equipment
componentry, and treatment chemicals.
Appropriate controls are developed to eliminate or minimise the possibility of
contamination arising from the sources identified in evidence requirement 3.1,
and implemented in accordance with worksite policies and procedures.
Outcome 4
Demonstrate knowledge of wood chip and wood fibre quality requirements.
Evidence requirements
4.1
Factors that influence the final product quality are described.
Range
factors include – raw materials, processes, equipment, action of
people.
4.2

in accordance with worksite policies and procedures.
4.3
Procedures for handling actual or suspected contamination incidents are
described in accordance with worksite policies and procedures.

This CMR can be accessed at http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/framework/search/index.do.
Please note
Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA,
before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses
of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
Requirements for consent to assess and an outline of the moderation system that applies
to this standard are outlined in the Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMRs). The
CMR also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing
to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors
and assessors, and special resource requirements.
