HIGH RISK PREGNANCY Sometimes patients will have medical problems prior to pregnancy or during pregnancy which will require consultation with a perinatologist/maternal –fetal medicine specialist. These consultations can generally take place in the Perinatal Testing Center at Paoli Hospital. The Center is staffed by the high risk specialists whose practice is based at Lankenau Hospital, Main Line Perinatal Associates. Generally, the perinatologist will advise the obstetrician on suggested management and the physicians will “co-manage” the patient during her pregnancy. Consultation with a perinatologist will be recommended by your healthcare provider. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Paoli Hospital is a level II NICU capable of caring for babies born from 32 weeks onward. If delivery of a fetus needs to occur prior to 32 weeks gestation, the mother will be transferred to Lankenau Hospital under the care of Main Line Perinatal Associates and delivered at Lankenau with a level III NICU.
