families and friends. Space is limited.
The registration fee is $2389*. The price includes accommodations, instructional fees, all
breakfasts and five dinners, transportation and entry fees for group excursions, gratuities, and is
based on double occupancy. Airfare is not included. A limited number of single rooms are
available for a supplemental cost of $384.
AN INITIAL DEPOSIT of $500 per participant is required to hold the space.
We will invoice for the balance of the tour in March, with an installment of $700 due by March
29, and the remaining balance due on April 26.

The Librarians’ Tour to Scotland: Information
For library and archives personnel and students and their friends and families, this is an
opportunity to travel with a small, compatible group, meet colleagues abroad, and visit many
scenic and historic places as well as libraries and archives.
The 2012 tour features the libraries and museums of Edinburgh and Glasgow, with a mix of
organized tours and time to explore on your own. This year's tour also features a Highland drive
with several days on the Isle of Skye, where we'll explore Skye's charming towns and the
gardens, library and museum at Armadale Castle.
We arrange visits to take you behind the scenes at
• National Library of Scotland
• Register House (National Archives)
• Edinburgh Central Library
• Innerpeffray Library (Scotland’s first public library)
• Clan Donald Library and Archives
• Mitchell Library, Glasgow
• Glasgow School of Art
and more!
Accommodations include five nights at the University of Edinburgh, two nights at the College of
Gaelic on Skye, and four nights at a Glasgow hotel. All accommodations have private baths.
Cost: approximately $2389 plus airfare. The price includes accommodations, non-credit
instructional fees*, all breakfasts and six dinners, transportation and entry fees for group
excursions, gratuities, and is based on double occupancy). Single rooms are available for a
supplemental cost of $384.
*Graduate credit may be available for an additional fee of approximately $200. Please indicate
on your registration form if you wish to enroll for credit, and you will be given additional
information on how to register for that component. UW-Madison Bursar's Office will bill you the
$200 separately from the cost of the trip if you are registered for the credit option.
For much of the trip we will use public transportation (we’ll have a small private coach for our
trip to Skye). A fair amount of walking should be expected. The tour begins on June 1 in
Edinburgh and ends in Glasgow on June 12. You may extend the trip at either end on your own.
CONDITIONS AND GENERAL INFORMATION
We encourage you to read the following information, which becomes part of any implied
contract between the University of Wisconsin-Madison and registrants in the program.
This program is open to librarians and other library personnel and their families and friends.
Travel companions of participants may join the program at the listed cost.
Standard Responsibility Clause
The University of Wisconsin-Madison act only as agents for the tour participants in all matters
pertaining to itinerary, accommodations, meals and sight-seeing tours; and they will not be
responsible for any accidents, damage, baggage losses, expense or inconvenience caused by any
changes in times of plane, train or bus arrival and departure or by any other necessary changes of
itinerary or accommodations or increase of rates, tariffs, or other costs effective after the
publication of this bulletin. Any such additional unanticipated expenses shall be borne by the
participants. The University reserves the right to make changes or substitutions in the itinerary or
speakers if it becomes necessary or desirable to do so. The right is also reserved to withdraw this
tour if world conditions, insufficient enrollment, or other reasons require such action. The right is
reserved to decline to accept or retain any person as a member of the seminar. In the event a
person who has been accepted as a member of the program leaves the program for any reason,
voluntary or otherwise, the University will be the sole judges of the amount to be refunded.
Neither the State of Wisconsin nor the University of Wisconsin shall be liable under any
circumstances for any damages arising out of any acts or omissions on the part of their officers,
agents, or employees. Airlines concerned are not to be held responsible for any act, omission, or
event during the time passengers are not aboard their planes. The passenger contract in use by
the airline, when issued, shall constitute the sole contract between the airlines and the purchasers
of this ticket and/or passenger.
Costs
The registration fee is $2389, which includes accommodations, all breakfasts and five dinners,
transportation and entry fees for group excursions, non-credit instructional fees, gratuities, and is
based on double occupancy. A limited number of single rooms are available for a supplemental
cost of $384. University of Wisconsin students must pay $17 for CISI travel insurance (see
Insurance section below). Participants registering for graduate credit will receive an additional
bill from the Bursar’s Office. Airfare and transportation to and from airports is not
included.
The University reserves the right to adjust it if necessary up until March 15 to reflect significant
changes in exchange rate, if applicable, or if the group size is small. Participants must hold a
valid passport by the departure date, and passport applications and fees are the responsibility of
the participant. Do not delay getting a new passport if you need one.
Cancellation/Withdrawal/Refunds
The University is required to make various deposits to reserve accommodations, transportation, tickets,
etc. Therefore, if you must withdraw from the program, irrespective of reason, you will forfeit a fee for
administrative handling and whatever portion of the deposits that cannot be retrieved from the various
travel agents. All cancellation/withdrawal notifications must be received in writing. If the University
finds it necessary to withdraw this tour, all payments will be returned. Our cancellation policy is as
follows:
 Requests received before March 28th: $75 per person, plus any other land penalties (i.e.
non-refundable hotel deposits, tickets we have already bought).
 Requests received between March 29th and April 26th: 50% penalty.
 Requests received between April 26th and May 15th: 75% penalty
 Requests received after May 15th: no refund.
Airline cancellation policies will vary with the class of ticket purchased. The passenger contract in use
by the airline, when issued, shall constitute the sole contract between the airlines and the purchasers of
this ticket and/or passenger. Since the University reserves the right to withdraw this tour if world
conditions, insufficient enrollment, or other reasons require such action, it is recommended that travelers
check with the tour leader, Jane Pearlmutter, before purchasing non-refundable plane tickets. (In the
past, however, this tour has never been canceled.)
Insurance
For non-student participants, insurance is a personal matter, but we encourage each participant to
consider the purchase of trip cancellation, baggage, and other forms of travel insurance to provide the
level of protection deemed personally necessary. Policies vary in coverage, so if you feel you need
insurance, you may want to shop around. You should also review your health insurance to make sure
you are covered while abroad.
The Board of Regents has mandated that all University of Wisconsin students studying/traveling
abroad under a UW sponsored program must enroll in health insurance through an insurance
plan offered by Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI). The cost of insurance for the

Health
If you have any physical conditions which may cause trouble, make a point to discuss this journey with
your physician, and advise your tour leader of special needs. The pace is steady and a fair amount of
walking should be expected; personal flexibility is necessary.
