Calvin Information Technology Network Operations Junior Systems Engineer 1 Purpose of Position: To assist the Network Operations Center team (NOC) of the Calvin Information Technology (CIT) department with network and systems administration. Classification: Student wage rate level III Reports to: Systems Engineers in the NOC Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Writing programs and scripts to automate tasks in the UNIX environment. Developing web-based forms and processes in the UNIX environment. Perform systems analysis and maintenance. Install and configure network servers. Perform server software installation and upgrades. Install and configure network devices. Other duties as assigned. All duties and responsibilities will be done under the supervision of the system engineers. Qualifications: Basic knowledge of the UNIX environment (Linux, Solaris, BSD, etc.) Basic knowledge of TCP/IP networking Basic knowledge of programming and scripting (perl, php, shell, html, etc.) Good communication and teamwork skills Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail Eagerness to learn Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Ability to work independently with some supervision Ability and willingness to lift 40 lbs Able to put in 10 or more hours in a normal school week (20 or more hours per week during the summer) Please contact Chris Wieringa (cwieri39@calvin.edu) to apply.
