Dreves, Asst. Professor-Senior Research Overall goal of project: Develop, examine, and analyze methods for safe, effective management of the invasive vinegar fly Drosophila suzukii (spotted wing Drosophila, SWD). Research is focused on the creation of practical IPM strategies and information dissemination to combat to the threat SWD poses to the small fruit industry in the Pacific Northwest. Funding is provided by a 5.8M dollar multi-state grant. Assisted in the design and implementation of a landscape-level mass-trapping trial to determine the presence, abundance, and trap preferences of spotted wing Drosophila Communicated with growers and farm workers to place fly traps in locations where they would be most beneficial Independently set up trials to determine the effect of sanitation practices on fly survival in infested fruit Analyzed data from many experiments including sanitation methods, landscape, and mass-trapping trials to create graphs and charts used in posters and presentations Trained and mentored student workers, interns, and volunteers in lab Managed research lab including organizing and purchasing equipment Contributed to weekly discussions as part of a larger team with a goal of helping growers manage SWD Biological Science Technician June-Sept. 2009 National Park Service, Ashland, OR Monitored trails using GPS units and Tablet PCs to record the location and size of infestations of targeted invasive plant species Phytopathology Assistant A.
